Lanyards still being handed out?

I can't tell you how many lanyards we have stashed away somewhere in our house. Having been on 17 DCL cruises we have gotten CC and DVC lanyards on essentially all of those. I have no problem with DCL discontinuing lanyards. We don't use them. If folks want to use them (we saw very few in use on the Wish) they could bring the ones they already have from home. Its not like they take up a lot of space.

I think they definitely need something, whether a band or a lanyard, because people spend a huge percentage of cruises in and around pools and other bodies of water. It's easy to carry a card in Alaska when you're wearing jeans but I want to leave my wallet in the room when I'm going for a beach day at Castaway Cay.

The new magic bands just hit WDW and they light-up. And they are $$ No thanks
The old Magic Bands are still available and will continue to be available. DCL already issues them to kids for a $12.95 charge that's 100% refundable at the end of your sailing. Aulani does the same. There's no reason why they'd have to be a mandatory $45 non-refundable purchase.

I agree with this completely, but would still like the "new" one when we get to a new level. I wish you could just opt out if you don't need/want it. Same with the sling bag! We have two in addition to one that we gave to a friend. We don't really need another.

That sounds a whole lot like, "I got mine, screw the rest of you." What about newer cruisers who don't have their CC lanyards yet? Or cruisers moving up to a new Club tier that want the new lanyards? Or people who lost a lanyard or had it ruined by an evil washing machine or a kid or a cat? Or what about lanyards that have just degraded over time?

Maybe you don't use your lanyards, but I use mine on every cruise. My wife doesn't carry her purse around the ship and women's clothing doesn't tend to have many useful pockets, if any at all. Most swimwear doesn't have pockets, either. And what about kids?

Besides, I just like having the lanyards. It's part of "cruise attire" now since it's always been there.

I'm sure that the older Magic Bands would work just fine. The Magic Band+ is supposed to do neat things at WDW, but probably wouldn't do anything all that interesting on the ship unless they specifically plan for it.

They won't give us free Magic Bands, though. That would be even more expensive and wasteful than the lanyards. So, switching to Magic Bands (even the non-plus variety) will add to the overall cost of a cruise.

You can. Just tell your stateroom host that you don't need new lanyards and they'll magically disappear. You can do this with the sling bags and other gifts, too.

I never said I wanted free Magic Bands. I literally said I'd be willing to pay for them. They don't need to be mandatory, but I'd like the option of a wearable.

Give everyone their KTTW card and then sell MB2s for $20. They'll sell a ton.

Better yet, My Disney Experience is already linked to Castaway Club. Just let people use their existing WDW Magic Bands.

How is the new Uncharted interactive thing on the Wish supposed to work...through your Iphone? I know its delayed for a bit but is it to work through the app?

I guess they might keep the free KTTW card option. Even WDW still lets you use cards if you don't want to buy a Magic Band. I'd be OK with that solution!

I think it's supposed to work through the app. Hopefully, it's not restricted to iPhones and they let us Android users play, too!

Agreed!

I don't like wearing the thick plastic Magic Band on my wrist all the time, especially when I've been swimming. I hope they stick with cards, which are also more environmentally friendly as someone mentioned.

If they switch it will be a cash grab so they can charge us. Just like they did at Disney World.

Then why do you?

The cards also have your stateroom number on it, which again, helps the kids get back into their staterooms independently.

You understand that you can get a free card at Disney World, right? 100% no cost. No cash shall be grabbed. Nobody has ever been obligated to wear a "thick plastic MagicBand" against their will.

When you aren't carrying a bag, it's hard not to wear your key whether it's a lanyard or MB.

I've never paid for a Magic Band.

It isn't clear that they'll still hand out the cards if the ships switch, and very unlikely they'll be the ones that include dining rotation, etc.

No they don’t. That would be a safety issue just like putting a room number on a hotel key.

They used to have your table number and dining rotation, but most of that is in the app now.
