Hi, we've never bothered with a lanyard for our Disney holidays -Magicbands etc-but we are also having 3 days at Royal pacific this time. do people use a lanyard for their park ticket/room key/express pass? And I think I read somewhere that they include photo ID-can anyone enlighten me on this? Do we need our passports or do they take a photo? I'm really excited yet really apprehensive about this portion of the holiday as I can't remember a time when I didn't know how a Disney holiday worked but this is all new!!

No photographs for separate EP anymore. That was changed a few years back.

Your room key is your EP. it`ll have the name and length of your stay on it. Each person registered in the room will get one. Some rides are using facial recognition when you enter the EP line.

We use lanyards for room key and AP. If you don't have an AP your park ticket can be held in a lanyard. Have the scan part facing out of each side. Lanyards are the way to go. So easy.

You can tuck them in on rides that are a bit rough. Don`t be worried....Universal is so easy......

You don't need your passports but you should have some sort of ID in your lanyard. If your finger scan doesn't work at some point, they will want to have some proof of identify. Only adults need ID.

I love using a lanyard at Universal Orlando. Be sure that the sleeve is clear and sealable. Place your room key and park pass back to back with the scanner sides facing out, and you shouldn’t need to remove either from the sleeve to use.

Thanks everyone-I just spotted another thread with similar questions so between you all, I think we're clear! One last question-do they sell the right sort of lanyards (ie ones with the sealable sleeve) in the hotels? As funny as it would be to wear a Disney one I don't think I've ever seen sleeves on theirs-or have I just not being paying attention?
:crazy2:

Just get the water proof phone lanyards from Amazon. It doesn't have to be a special brand. If you need a character on it, get a sticker or buy a separate character lanyard. The waterproof phone cases are awesome though. Lots of knock off brands that work just fine.

I have used waterproof phone lanyards on my boat and I'm never afraid to jump in to the water with it, so it comes in handy at a theme park.

The Lanyards you can buy at Universal (or at the resort gift shops) come with sleeves that have a seal on them. Like this one for example:

ooh thats not a bad price-Might have to get one each. Funnily enough me and DH were having a conversation about Hogwarts last weekend and I said I saw myself as a Hufflepuff so maybe I can get one of their's! Thanks for the link

For this recent trip we used new, cheap Halloween horror lanyards that were on eBay (5 for $11) and it worked out really well. I'll never not use a lanyard again

We found lanyards were a must. You always have to have it accessible when you need to enter the express pass line, which is often. We bought inexpensive ones on amazon as the ones in the park can be rather expensive. As compared to WDW planning a UO trip is a breath of fresh air. I almost felt like i was doing something wrong when we weren't planning dining months ahead and just choosing day of what rides we wanted to do. Just relax and enjoy!
