Languages of attractions

My colleague is going to Disney with her family for the first time this summer. Her husband and her are ok in English, but her two kids (DS4 and DS7) only speak French.

I've heard that at the beginning of Spaceship Earth you can choose the language for the attraction. Is that true? When you choose where you are from, if you choose Canada, will it give you the option of french, or should she just choose France? Will the little quiz and video at the end be in french?

Are there any other attractions like that which you can choose the language? For example, can you choose the language of the kimmunicators for Kim Possible?

Also, what shows/3D movies would you suggest as easily understandable even without understand english? I know Festival of the lion King is mostly songs and acrobatics, so that's ok. And I think Mickey's Phillarmagic is mostly Donald talking, which no one can understand anyway, right?

Any suggestions/help will be appreciated.

Spaceship Earth: you choose the language before the location, so they can pick French then Canada.

There is a service offered through Guest Relations which allows Guests to wear red headphones on attractions and will translate the attraction into the selected language. I am not sure if it costs $$ to use them.

In fact, Donald is the narrator of Mickey's PhilHarMagic for precisely that reason--no one can understand him, so it can be understood by anyone regardless of language.

I think the headphones are called Ears to the World ... yes here it is: http://allears.net/pl/england.htm They are free but there is a refundable $100 security deposit.

I think the Spaceship Earth quiz results do not come up in the language--it asks you the questions in the language you choose, but the little "you will live on the moon" afterward is always in English (but of course they could understand the cartoons). On our last trip we went with friends and their 4-year-old chose Portuguese (no, I don't know why--yes, he actually can read) so they heard the whole thing in Portuguese except for part of the quiz at the end. But I'm not 100% sure about how much of the quiz was in English.

Anyone know any other good shows/movies (like Phillarmagic) to watch that don't rely too much on knowing the english language? Or about the Kim Possible Missions?

Nope and they arne't going to 'get' alot of Philharmagic, Donald is just a small part, all the songs and stuff would be confusing I would think. At AK FOTLK and Nemo both have alot of singing in them. They will prob still enjoy the stage performances at both though. I can see It's Tough to be a Bug as terrifying if you don't know what they are saying.

At DS: Lights, Motors, Action, Indie, High School Musical, VOTLittle Mermaid, & American Idol all are primarily talking/singing. LMA and Indie they may still enjoy the stunts more than the others but HSM, AIE, and VOTLM I think would be confusing (and VOTLM scary) without knowing what they were saying.

At MK: the stage show (I want to say Dream along with Mickey) will be a litltte confusing I would think without understanding the language, but this would probably be your best bet for show they will understand b/c the charecters are recognizable and use alot of over exagerated body movements to get thier points across.

At Epcot: American Adventure would be confusing (and prob boring), The 3 movies in the WS also would be something I would avoid. I don't know about Captain EO, but Honey I Shrunk the Audience would have scared me to deal not knowing what they are saying.

Kim Possible is only in English as far as I know, I don't recall being asked. It's very text-heavy, but maybe the adults can translate the clues into French for the kids? I don't know.

I don't think that they'll have any problem at all with shows based on Disney movies they already know! Like Beauty & the Beast, Festival of the Lion King (except the intro), Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh. I'm sure they know the songs in PhilHarMagic as well! I wouldn't worry about shows where they sing Disney songs, in short, even if the kids only know the songs in French. (Although I think that usually when American movies are dubbed to French, the songs are left in English, anyway. Don't know if that holds true for movies in Canada or only in France.)

I've heard little kids can get very upset when the face characters (like the princesses) can't speak to them in their own language. They might want to stick to the fur characters.

I suppose that your colleague is from Quebec, is he? Choosing French language in Spaceship Earth, he will hear a rather familiar voice, that is, Dorothée Berryman's one!
