Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if the menus or navigators come in different languages such as Mandarin? Thanks!

I have never noticed a Menu or Navigator in a different language.

They might able to make some sort of accommodation, but I would recommend downloading the Google Translate app on a smart phone. Once you have the app, you can download the Mandarin Chinese language pack (or any other language you need) so that the app will work without an Internet connection.

For text, using the phone's camera, you hold your phone in front of the menu/sign/document and the app will magically change the text from its original language into the translated language.

The app will also use the phone's microphone and speaker to translate conversations (both ways).

It's pretty amazing. Here's a demo:

A couple of years ago, I was at a table with three young Japanese women who spoke no english. Not only was their menu in Japanese, but our server spoke it!

No Chinese menu, that would have come in handy for my aunt. One night our assistant server offered her the Japanese menu...close but no cigar. :)

Thanks everyone. The google translate app needs internet connection doesn't it?

Menus hardly ever change. Maybe you can look at the menus ahead of time and know what you want before you cruise.

If you download the language pack at home (go into the app and tap the download icon), you do NOT need an Internet connection. I use it all the time when I travel. The language packs are somewhat large (300MB or more), but you don't need to download more than you need. There are a few languages that are not download-able, but Chinese is a download ("Chinese" is how it is listed in the app, so I'm not sure which dialect(s) it handles, probably standard Chinese/Mandarin).

Thanks. Unfortunately according to the app those downloads are only available on android. The iPhone/iPad versions only have limited camera language downloads which is what I use.

Bummer ... the list of download-able languages is MUCH smaller for iOS. Never tried it on my wife's iPhone before, only my Android.

There are some other translation apps for iOS, but I don't have any experience with them. Maybe one of them can do offline Chinese.
