I am thinking of using my German and taking the language assessment interview when I get down to Disney. Has anyone done this? Is it hard? Thanks!

I haven't done it yet (I will be trying for the ASL pin in Aug). But from what I've heard, you just need to be conversational to get the language pin.

I took the language test for German. The interviewer asked where I learned to speak German (grew up in Germany) and some questions about my status w/ the company. It was basically just a conversation auf Deutsch and she told me I'd passed and would be receiving my new nametag in a few weeks. There was no English spoken during the interview part (they have someone who answers the call, takes some info, then transfers you). A few times, my brain wasn't assimilating as fast as she was speaking, but fortunately, I caught up!

I wanted to try for a japanese language pin but I don't think my skills are good enough for it yet (I've taken three classes over three semesters). I need to brush up on it lol.

I'm starting Japanese language courses (2 semesters) this fall, then going to Japan for a month. I hope to do well enough to get a language pin.

Does anyone have pictures of these? I don't think I've ever seen them.

Do the guests look around for someone with a language pin or do other CMs usually find you for the guests?

They are a gold looking addition to the nametag. Some guests do look around for CMs with the pins or they just ask if you speak a certain language (I get asked if I speak spanish or portugese all the time, I speak neither).

So its said you need to be "conversational" in the language. What kinds of things do you talk about in the interview?

i heard you just need to know enough of the langauge to be able to give directions or just explain what something is on a menu.

I was also wondering about the language assessment interview. I am interested in the sign American sign language test.

I'm interested in the ASL test too. Hopefully it won't be too hard (I'm going for it next month).

Wow, that's it? :scared1:

I could probably pass the test the next time I'm there with only minimal studying involved.

My spoken isn't amazing, but since you're talking about pronouncing and understanding things are practically first/second level french. (I've taken 2 classes in high school, and 3 in college.)

I probably could've passed the test for french when I was there for my CP with only some minor studying involved.

for those who have taken the language interview:
can i do the interview here where I live before I leave for WDW or can I only do it after I have arrived for my CP and have become a Castmember?

It says online to call the College, International & Career Start Programs Office at EPCOT (which I have no number) and that more information would be on he HUB (which I dont have access to...yet)

Thanks for any input.

You have to wait until you've arrived. They ask for all sorts of information at the beginning of the call so they know where to send your new nametag if you pass the test. They are only open on Mondays for limited hours, too, so I had to take mine during a break in my Merchantainment class.

danke schön :)
