My Mom is going to watch the kids for a night in a couple of weeks, so that DH & I can get away. We have decided to go to Lancaster & since I got such a kick out of camping last time, we're going to try that again. We're staying at the Country Acres Campground, near Bird-in Hand. I was wondering if anyone knew of any "must see" attractions in the area. No themeparks please, my kids would never forgive me! :)

I love that area. I pulled up a thread that was on the CB a couple of months ago that I had posted in with lots of good ideas for attractions and restaurants. Rather than try to list them all again, I'll just post the link to the thread:

I'm sure you can find some good tips from DISers there. For the more "official" line you can try:

Good luck and have a great getaway weekend.

We went there when we went to HersheyPark. We called it the land of the amish!!!!!! They have really good restaurants around, Kitchen Kettle Village is pretty neat, lots of good smells! We got there at 7:30 p.m. and most of the shops had closed down for the night, so go early. Honestly, we didn't find much to do there! Some of the restaurants have shops (like Cracker Barrel) but more "homemade"

We won't be going again...... not our definition of "fun" if you happen to know what I mean. :bounce:

Here's a link for attractions in Lancaster! Lancaster, PA
Sorry if I wasn't too much of a help!

Hello there, Delaware!
How 'bout a tour of the Hershey Chocolate Factory?
There are a couple Amish Villages that are prepped for tours. Ummm. LOTS of shopping. (I like the Noah's Ark store at Rockvale Outlets. Cute!)
There are a couple theaters there, too, right off of 896, if biblical stories are your thing. I've heard that the "Noah's Ark" production is awesome.

We go every year, we love it there. We take buggy rides thorugh an Amish farm, go to the pretzel factory, go to good and plenty to eat (thats a MUST!), There is a flea market there called the Green Dragon that we go to, we certaily hit the outlets too, Take a ride on the Stratsburg Railroad, Go to Hershey even if you don't go tothe park you can take the chocolate world tour...

Thank you all for so many great idea. :) I'm looking forward to our new adventure. :)

This is a favorite of ours -- ask to sit on the porch and watch the buggies go by. This is in Intercourse. BTW Zimmerman's in Intercourse was filmed in Harrison Ford Amish movie - can't remember the name. It's owned by my DH's college roommates family.

The Harrison Ford movie was Witness.
