Lamplight Lounge Question

So we had a lunch reservation at Lamplight that we had to let go of to re-arrange some scheduling we hand going on due to D23... instead, we were hoping to reschedule our reservation to an early (like opening time) lunch time slot at Lamplight earlier on in our trip instead. However, this was all for not as there is no availability showing up for that restaurant at ANY POINT of our vacation dates now...

I know there are cancellations but I am not going to rest my expectations on that. I also realize you can standby at sit at the old Cove Bar location in the open air... and I suppose we will do that IF it is our ONLY option. I really wanted to see the interior renovations with the Pixar memorabilia and theming... so... my question is this. If we turned up say 10 minutes or so prior to opening of the Lamplight Lounge for lunch service in the late morning, will they even consider seating a walk-up? Or is that area strictly for reservations only, no matter how you slice it?? Thanks in advance...

I don't know about showing up early to walk-in for downstairs, but it never hurts to show up early the day of and ask nicely.

I can say you should keep checking the app daily, including day-of. Several times I have snagged same day reservations to LL that randomly appear.

They do take walk-ups for the downstairs area, but guests with reservations have priority. You can show up early, but I don't know if that will help if they're fully booked. There aren't many tables in the downstairs restaurant, but whenever I've checked in they've asked if I wanted a table inside, table outside, or the bar. I think the inside tables are reserved for the reservations, but the other area might be available for walk-ups (I heard them offering a walk-up group the tables outside or at the bar, so that's why I'm thinking the inside tables are held for the reservations).

At worse, you can always ask if you can go downstairs to look around after you've eaten if you're in the upstairs area.

Downstairs takes walk-ups.

We’ve eaten at LL three times, all on day-before cancellations. But we’ve also seen many people walk-up, and they take your number and text when your table is ready.

You can definitely walk up, really at anytime. They have a separate line off to the side of the entrance for walk ups. I've done it twice so far. Be aware, you may not get seated at an actual table by going this route. In fact, you are almost guaranteed to NOT get a table. Tables are reserved for people with ADRs. The rest of the seating is either communal or along a wall counter with stools or at the actual bar. You will have no say in where you end up and they are not very accommodating if you don't like where you are placed. Many of these seats are in direct sun during much of the day. Just be aware of these things if you decide to walk up.

Are you trying to a book a bigger group by chance?

There is like no group seating there. If you are, try booking smaller groups.

We walked up for lunch a couple of days ago just before noon. I asked how long the wait would be, and they said about 5 minutes because they had just opened, and we were soon sitting at a nice downstairs table. I get the feeling they only take reservations for a fairly small proportion of their space, to ensure plenty of availability for walkups; a big contrast to WDW and I assume because of the large number of locals making spur of the moment plans. You should have no problems at all; enjoy!
