Laminate floors from IKEA?

Does anyone have any opinions of laminate floors from IKEA? Also I know this is probably a silly question but can you put laminate on stairs?( I know the answer is probably yes, but I am not sure how it works) Thanks for any info.

I can't help you with either question but I have been wondering, too, if there is a way to put laminate on stairs. I'm not sure how you'd trim it out. Dying to hear replies on that!!

I can't say out of experience, but I know I wouldn't hesitate to buy laminate from Ikea. I've been pleasantly surprised with their stuff.

I was actually unable to find someone who would install laminate on stairs. They may exist, but everyone I spoke to said that laminate is typically too slippery making it a dangerous choice for stairs. That was a few years ago though, they may have made better products by now.

Ikea Flooring is OK at best I use it in my basement I would not use it in a main part of the house.
it is harder to install compared to higher end flooring.

with that if you want laminate I would go to Home Depot or Lowes they have laminate with a real wood layer and both Lowes and HD have solid bamboo.
You will pay a premium....
My suggestion if you are willing to do it yourself buy yourself a small compressor and finish 16ga nail gun for Hrabor frieght tools and put down solid bamboo it is 1.99 a SQ foot at HD or lowes... it will last you a lot longer and it is not that hard as all the boards are straight and are fairly wide unlike oak, maple or.....

stairs... that is a whole different set of rules and neither should be used for them.
save you money and time and do it right the first time in the long run you will save $$$ you can do these projects on your own... do the research dream about it for a little while and you will be fine....

Yes, you can put laminate flooring on stairs. You buy hardwood edge pieces to finish it off. Maybe they make special stair edge pieces made from laminate flooring but as far as I know you use hardwood that is stained to blend.

I don't know why people have issues with hardwood or laminate stairs -- they're fine. They don't cause problems. You should use the handrail every time you go up/down stairs, whether they are carpet or wood. I've slipped on carpet stairs more than hardwood stairs, actually.

It wasn't hard, but it was "backwards". My brother is a contractor. He does odd jobs like this when business is slow. He's installed every kind of flooring imaginable. When it comes to laminate, he usually uses the ones from Sam's Club, or something from Lowe's. He had never used IKEA before, I asked if he would mind trying it, and because of the pricing (better than the other places), he said he would give it a go and see if it is something he would use elsewhere.

He had a hard time at first, because he said everything is just backwards from how it is usually installed. But after the first few boards being laid down, he was fine with it. He has since installed it at the request of other customers. IKEA delivers, so he offers the option to clients. The price is right for it.

We did decide, though, if we were to put new flooring in a high-traffic area like our living room, we would probably go with something else. It works for our bedroom - medium traffic area. We have a small office in our bedroom, I do all of the laundry folding in there, the kids are always running in and out, so it's not like that is a room that is only entered once or twice a day.

Its about the same with all IKEA products- they are dorm room quality things and you get what you pay for with them.

Gonna have to disagree here. While some of their products are certainly poorly made (for me it was the free-standing clothes rack), many of their products are far better than "dorm room quality". The coffee table we purchased 10years ago from IKEA has held up very well, even with 3 young boys in the house. The bookshelves we purchased for our library are very sturdy. I have a small business and store heavy items on another system of wooden bookshelves. While there are probably some IKEA pieces that are not the best quality, i have found some very good ones.

No comment on the Ikea flooring, but I just had to say this thread brought back many happy memories of my brother and I sliding down the hardwood stairs at my grandmas house. I don't know if she used pledge to clean them or what, but we spent many hours whipping down those slippery stairs. They were awesome! LOL

Agree with Anthony: Ikea Flooring is ok at best, and it is more difficult to install than higher end flooring. I have found the Ikea flooring to be prone to chipping on the corners of the boards.
