Lake Lanier/Stone Mtn Camping

Looks like we may be head to the Atlanta area to visit my sister this summer. We decided that if we do go, we'll make it into a camping trip and tow our trailer down.

Any recommendations? I've been the waterpark at Lake Lanier, and it looks like there is lots to do there. I've also been to Stone Mountain, and I believe they have camping too. I would guess that my sister and her family would tent it, but does anyone know if there are any campgrounds with cabins or other rentals?

in Dhalonega its also close to Helen so you can browse the shops. Along the way you can pan for gold too!

here's the site for GA state parks. I don't believe either place you mentioned is a state park, but at least this will give you some ideas as to where there are camping sites and cabins.

If you find yourself wanting a a nice "getaway" with a scenic view, try Cloudland Canyon State park. There are several cabins and camping sites right along the upper ridge of the canyon.

Yes but from my understanding it isn't as nice as it was when I was growing up. some of the shops burned down and were replaces with more "general" type shopping.

If you are ever in Michigan the German Town we visited is much better. I'll have to get the name from DH. It was about 1 1/2 hrs from Detroit if I remember correctly.

I'll tell you my FAVORITE state park in GA. Vogel State Park, is absolutely lovely. There are cabins to rent there, playgrounds, swimming areas, picnic areas, fishing areas, boat rentals, hiking trails and the list just goes on and on! It is located near Blairsville GA which is about 90 minutes from Atlanta but well worth the drive!
