Lake Lanier Magical Lights

Can anyone tell me more about this? I saw the prices for the lights, but they mention the village afterwards with extra charges for Santa, etc. Does anyone know where to find the prices for these?

Is it worth going to on a Friday night? The price for a car load is $53 for a Friday, or $33 for a Thursday. Wondering if it is worth the extra $20 for me to take a PTO day.

I want for us to do something special, but so far everything is out of the budget.

Any info you can provide is appreciated.

I've gone here twice - never paid that kind of money. Publix/Kroger should have a coupon. Weekends do cost more money. The line gets really long, I mean out onto the main street (is it 20? so bad with street names) backed up for miles. Go before sun down, that's what we did and just pulled over and waited. Our first year we sat for over an hour waiting to get in. The village is nothing great. There are carnival type rides too, all for a price, we have never done that.
We just came back from Disney and the OSborne Lights. My 8 year old said, "forget Lake Lanier, these are way better!"

It's a family tradition for us, but we starting going way back on the 1st year it opened. No, it's not as cool as Disney, but my family enjoys driving thru the lights, picking out a new ornament and seeing Santa (he's the "prettiest" santa we've found). Then we buy them marshmellows and we roast them. We don't do the carnival as it's always too chilly and I don't trust those rides to be honest.
This year is the most expensive though. Check with Kroger for coupons and definately go on a week night. Weekends you can wait in miles of traffic to get in. We get there right at dusk, loop thru once, do the village, then turn around and loop again if it wasn't dark enough the first time.

Check out Children's Health Care of Altanta parade this Saturday too at 10:30am. My children love going to that!

They raised their prices a LOT this year. Last year they had $15 Tuesdays, I thought that was a bit much, $30 is kind fo crazy and $60 for a weekend night is just plan obscene!

We went for FREE (my favorite price!) so I can't help you with the fees but we LOVED it. My friend has foster children and they had never seen anything like it! It was a thrill to see their faces light up like the decorations!

Wow, ouch!- THAT price is insane this year! We were going to do Lake Lanier Lights again w/ DH's family but I'm thinking we will go to Life U instead It is a very nice display but since we have the exact same light display here in Texas (a chain company?) for almost 1/2 the price we can go local. Santa only visits on the weekends here, I do not know abt. there, but you might check to be sure if that is important to your visit. Life U used to be great years back, depending on where you are located you might opt for Life U instead.

Since you are all Atlanta locals- as anyone done sledding at Stone Mountain? Is it worth it? And what else is there to do in the area? I REALLY need ideas for the week after Christmas.

All of the extras really add up. We only went once, and I was flabbergasted at the cost. My kids wanted the overpriced cocoa, the overpriced dippin dots, etc....

It's not as nice, but have you ever been to the light display at Life College in Marietta? It's free, and has plenty enough lights for my family.

They have a whole new setup this year for people who haven't been there in a few years. Basically you pull into LLI in your car and start driving past display after display of characters done up in lights. They have a radio station you can tune to that plays nonstop Christmas music to help create some atmosphere. Smaller kids really seem to enjoy it, teenagers would probably find it to be boring but that's just the experiences with my kids.

The Santa's Village at the end is pricey but it doesn't cost a dime to walk around. Fill up your car with kids and go for it.
