Hey Alabama people,

I'm thinking of booking July 18 weekend at lake Guntersville. I know, we'll miss the Shrimp festival, but the following weekend I'll be busy with back to school stuff.

Anyway, I went through the booking part of the Alabama State Park site and it came back with 197 "Improved Full Campsites" available. We must have a site that can accommodate our 40' fifthwheel, 50 amp service, sewer and slides on both sides. Can this be guaranteed? If not is there a chance we'll get there and not be accommodated?

Thanks!

Napria,

Did you see this statement on the Gunterville camping web page?

My experience with Alabama state parks in general is that a full hook-up site with sewer connection will have 50 amp service available. Most of the sites look rebuilt in open space so you can probably put the rear-most wheels of the 5'er against the end of the paved site and have room for the back end. But you should call the number above to get a feel for it.

Tell us how it goes. I need to get back there. The new lodge looks nice too (the old one was so 70s but cute).

I agree with Bama Ed. We've always had great luck with Alabama State Parks by calling the park direct.

We haven't camped at Guntersville, but have visited and the new facilities are great! Beautiful park.

Let us know about your experience because it is definitely on our radar for an upcoming trip.

It seems every state operates differential. Dealing with the Texas state park system, you can not call the park direct. Their reservation center handles every thing. As of now you reserve a type of site that is available, they are experimenting with a site specific system at a couple parks. This is the system the US Corp of Engineers use at their parks. With the site specific system a group of campers can reserve sites close to each other and have the amenities they want.:yay:

I'm used to Georgia State Parks where you reserve online only, state your RV size and they assign a site upon check in. Florida State Parks and Corps of Engineers parks reservation system enables you to reserve a specific site.

Guess I'll be calling tomorrow. Hope they're open.

I'll let you all know after we go.

Thanks!
