Hi,
I recently saw a picture of the "filled" lagoon at DCA but there is still a giant platform with pipes and wires and stuff in the middle of it. Isn't the water suppoed to go over that too? The lagoon looks horrible all filled and this giant platform with giant wires, pipes and spotlight looking things in the middle of it.
Anyone know what the deal is?

(and yes I know the platform is for World of Color I just thought they would cover it more like Fantasmic)

I don't know the answer to that exactly, but it is a good question. I think that the water is supposed to be covering that platform at some point because I assume the effects in the show will make it appear as though things are happening ON the water and not on a platform. But I totally agree with you - I hate the way the lagoon looks, with that platform jutting up out of the water - I was thinking that very thing when I was there in December. It is so unsightly and needs to be camouflaged!

Yes, but hopefully good things will come.

As I understand it, the platform will be raised and lowered as necessary. Right now it is in "maintenance" mode, as they're still working on it. Later it will be lowered so that the entire platform is underwater, which will be the regular mode that it will be in throughout the day. Before the show it will raise to "show" mode, which is lower than maintenance mode but will allow the show effects to be created.

I heard that Disney planned it this way because it would be too expensive to hire (and teach) divers to service the show, so the platform allows land-bound workers to work on it.

Once the show is all ready, the platform shouldn't be in "maintenance" mode unless they're actually doing maintenance. :)

The lagoon looks SO much better with water in it than without, I can't complain about the ginormous platform in the middle of it. :flower3:

Disney isn't stupid.

The entire platform will be submerged when the work is complete.

Placing it on a submerged platform allows maintenance to be done without divers.

We watched them lower one of the platforms last week. I don't know if they weren't trying to lower it all the way or that it just doesn't go all the way down, but the pipes were still sticking up. You couldn't see the platform anymore but you could still see all the fountains pipes. I thought about taking some pictures but can't remember why I didn't? Probably just because I was too enthralled with watching them test things out.

that would be the show mode. it is the same with the fountains at the Bellagio in Vegas is you have seen it. right before the show, you can see the pipes come up out of the water.

Thanks. I've seen the Bellagio show many times, just never paid attention to the pipes.
