Ladybugs in the house??

Came home today to about 25 ladybugs on my living room ceiling

ANy idea where they came from
and how to get rid of these and keep more from coming


I have never seen so many together before
really weird

These are the asian ladybugs. They come out around this time of year looking to find a nice warm place to spend the winter. They are a nuisance!

They will moostly congregate on the warm side of the house and try to find a way in. We have a b unch on our south side windows today.

These lady bugs can bite, but not often. If you vacuum them up, do not leave the bag, they will smell. Do not crush them. They will leave a stain.

I have the same problem too. This year so far I've found two, but unfortunately I know this is just the beginning. I have no idea on how to prevent them from coming in, I just vaccum them up. If they're by the front door, I'll set them free. I'm just glad they're not bees

WE have those asian ladybugs in our house too! I killed two of them this am in the family room. The other night one was just driving me crazy it was constantly flying up by the light in the office and buzzing like no other!

My parents used to get these...huge lines of them. My mom doesn't like killing ladybugs (apparently, it is bad luck) so she vacuumed them up with a clean vacuum bag then dumped them in the shed to hibernate. I don't know if they made it, but she didn't feel guilty about killing them.

Thanks for this info DH was gonna get the flyswatter out but i told him about the staining so he will probably vacum instead

Yes, don't squish them!! They leave an orange/brown stain, and they stink too. I learned this the hard way in our old house. I squished one on the ceiling, and I had a lasting reminder of that bug until we repainted

BTW, these are considered a "protected species" (or at least they used to be), so no exterminator will help you to deal with an infestation

I've been seeing the odd one too. They are really a nuisance. My cats like to chase them!

I hate those Asian Beetles! A friend of ours is the County Extension Agent and he recommended spraying your foundation with a product called Tempo. You can find it at farm supply stores or buy it online. It costs about $35 or so, but that bottle will last you about 10 years. Farmers use it to control flies, etc in their barns. It works great. You just need some kind of a sprayer, you mix it with water and spray. He said that the bottle recommends using 6 oz with 1 gallon of water but use 8 oz instead (the bottle has a self-measuring dispenser). It will last for weeks, unless it rains and then you have to re-apply.
