Lady Tremaine Terrified My Daughter..What to do?

These characters are walking in a parade--not much time to look over each and every kid to determine which ones might be truly afraid. And no time to stop and spend 1/2 hour trying to be a "nice" mean character.

Lady Tremaine was absolutely NOT at fault here..

i think the point of many in this thread is that LT didn't necessarily KNOW the child was scared. my DS was hiding behind a stroller in my story. he was NOT scared (just doesn't like girl characters). if Anastasia had left him alone, we would've missed a completely hilarious moment.

OP, i'm sorry you all missed a fun dinner. but you did what was best for your child. maybe in the future, she'll be able to better handle it and you all can visit 1900 park fare. those tremaines are hilarious!

Well said I couldn't agree anymore......

To be honest, I wish we were doing one character meal, but I don't want to drag my kids into that situation if they absolutely don't want to go. So we aren't, and maybe next time we go, they'll change their mind.

I might make the ressie anyway, for towards the end of the vacation, and ask them again when time comes for that meal. If they get brave enough to do some individual meets, the character meal might not be so intimidating after awhile.

This is how I know she was obviously scared. The CMs are trained to interact with people (yes, I know they are trained to be villians) and part of that means reading body language so I can't imagine that LT had no idea that the little girl was scared.

How does "hiding her head on my shoulder" equate to "obviously scared"? If that is the case then my daughter is scared of everyone, everywhere, character or not. My daughter ALWAYS tucks her head on my shoulder when greeting someone, especially someone new. In general she is not frightened, she is shy and at a stage where she is trying to understand what a true stranger is...so she takes it to the extreme and will "hide" from anyone approaching her until I tell her the person is ok to speak with...then I can't shut her up ;)

My DD (now 4) is NOT shy at all, but sometimes she will pretend she is shy-hide her head on me, hide under a table from Captain Hook etc.-, to get attention. At the character meal at DL, Hook kind of stuck his head down towards her and held his hand out to her when she hid under the table , apparently decided she really was scared so he quickly backed off and stopped to take a picture with me. When she thought Hook was leaving, she came flying out from under the table and the next thing I know they were doing the Macarena together. I think it is sometimes hard for the characters to judge a kid's real emotion in such a short time, especially in a pass by in a parade. As she was six years old, Lady Tremaine may very well have thought she was hiding her head to get her attention or at least at that age wasn't really that scared. I doubt she would have made that comment to a 2 or 3 year old. You have to admit, assuming Lady Tremaine didn't realize she was truly terrified, the comment was hilarious. We have always loved Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters at MK. DD was crazy about Anatasia when she was 2 and 3 (thanks to Cinderella 2 and 3), and she had some great interactions with them. The stepmother generally likes DD because she is an Anastasia fan and "obviously a very smart child", but she does scold her for things like jumping up and down, being unladylike in holding her dress up and for her horrible clothes (a Cinderella dress- but the Stepmother was more unhappy with us for buying the poor child such clothes and suggested that "her parents (roll eyes) needed to take that sweet child shopping for new clothes"). In fact, our parade experience was the opposite of yours. The stepmother recognized DD as Anastasia's fan, came over during the parade and haughtily said "I know you" and then started yelling for her daughters to come over and say hello to Anatasia's fan which they promptly did. It was such a special moment and made DD so happy, I had tears in my eyes. I love those girls!!! In fact, our experience at 1900 Park Fare was not that great for DD BECAUSE the Stepmother and stepsisters (who looked "different" there;)) clearly toned it WAY down at our table because DD was so little. It was very clear they were being careful not to scare her. Little did they know.
