"Lady I dont feel like changing your tire"

Personally, I'd call AAA and complain. My understanding is that they will "put your spare tire on your car" for you, and that it what I would expect. And that is what was done the 3 times I've had flat tires over the years.

From AAA's website:

4. Flat Tire Service

A wheel with a flat tire will be replaced with the member's inflated spare tire, at no charge. Special lug wrenches or keys needed to remove the wheel cover or the member must supply wheel. If the spare is not available or in need of repair, the service station will tow the vehicle. Dual-wheel vehicles are not eligible for tire service.

Does a Primary membership cover removal of a nail in a tire and subsequent plugging of the tire?

Answer
No. Repairs are not covered. The Primary membership covers the cost for a service provider to come out and install your spare tire. If you do not have a spare tire that is usable, your car will be towed.

And most tow truck drivers I've encountered have been a bit gruff.

I feel the need to defend tow truck drivers. :rotfl:

I've known several and while they may appear gruff, several have been the nicest people you can imagine.

Just remember they have to deal with a lot of idiots and a lot of scary people themselves. I know some that have even been shot at. :scared1:

I do think though that if you asked for your tire to be changed and it is within your rights per your policy, you have the right to be ticked. AAA isn't cheap and you pay for it for this purpose.

he actually provided service above his requirement, if the plug was done properly, he saved you the hassle of getting to a garage, them plugging the tire and putting it back on the car..

I'd probably just let it go. Sounds like your tire is ok, at least for now. If I thought the guy seemed not real stable, and he knows where I live, I would wonder about retaliation. He probably wouldn't do anything, but I'd be looking over my shoulder for quite some time after that. Unless you could file a complaint with AAA anonymously.

There are many times when I'm frustrated with someone who is providing a service for me, and sometimes I'll say something, but sometimes I don't. I think you have to pick and choose your battles in life, and sometimes it's just not worth fighting a battle.

I don't see the big deal he fixed your tire:confused3:confused3:confused3
That's true he did fix her tire, but I think the OP was maybe a bit frustrated because it sounded like he was blowing her off, and she is paying to be a member of AAA and receive their services when needed. At least that's how it sounded to me.

Since you didn't know that a plugged tire is perfectly safe to drive on, I'd have been more than a little annoyed by the attitude. However, now that you know it is safe, I think I might just let it go, especially since he knows where you live. He actually provided more service than AAA requires, saving you a trip to the garage AND money on a new tire.

FWIW, I had a plug in one of my tires for 3 years before the tire needed to be replaced, and even then, the plug wasn't the problem. As long as you don't drive like you're on the NASCAR circuit, you should be just fine.

If I get a flat and the tire is 'pluggable', I'll generally just plug it. It's a bunch quicker and easier than changing it. Otherwise, you're just going to change it and pay some tire place $20 to plug it for you.

A plug is perfectly fine, safe and the usual remedy for a flat when practical.

ETA: And much, much cheaper than a tire.

usual remedy but not the best. the proper method of repair is to remove the tire from the rim, patch the inside and remount it. That way even if the plug looses up air will not leak past it due to the covering patch inside.

But plugs have been used for many many years. (please don't tag me with that, please...) and have lasted for the life of tires, if installed properly.

Mikeeee

Plugs work so I don't see the problem. I certainly wouldn't complain because he got you up and running and saved you a few dollars.

And what the heck was he supposed to call you? Okay, you might not have liked "Lady" but it sure as heck beats the b word. Now that would offend me. :lmao:
