Lady Gaga........a superstar.......?

I prefer this performance, from the Grammys in 2010. Puts on a great show and can sing. Much better than Lady GaGa IMO. :thumbsup2

i consider that one of the best live performances ever........Pink takes her work very seriously and has structured her career for the long haul....under exposed.......good choices.......she is not Tabloid fodder....would not be surprised to see hollywood in her future.

Love Pink...she is such a strong woman and tries to be a realistic role model for young women. When she appeared in the Toronto area for concerts, she went to at least one high school and met with young women. I give her a lot of respect for her talent and her growth, both personal and professional.

My daughters hate it when I sing along to Lady Gaga songs. I don't do it because I like the songs, I do it to make them mad.

Give me The Clash, they are the only band that matters.

I think it's far too early to make judgment calls on Lady Gaga's longevity, or lack thereof. We barely know her. But as a dyed in the wool fan of both Madonna AND Grace Jones, I have often questioned the knee-jerk reaction the press has had to the younger pop generation. Especially when both Grace Jones and Madonna were consistenly written off by their own contemporaries from day one. Grace, for being a no-talent Warhol supermodel, and Madonna for being a trashy no-talent trend scavenger. They were both labeled as has-beens right out of the gate, and Madonna's career alone has been proclaimed "over" thousands of times.

When it comes to the female sex, be it in acting, music, or any of the arts for that matter, it seems...well, it must bite to be a girl. That's all I'm saying.

I wasnt making a judgement. I voiced an opinion.

In the time Lady Gaga has been on the radar....she has released many versions of the same handful of catchy songs.

My point was, that it will be interesting to see if this is something that can be repeated or if this was, as they say, lightning in a bottle.

An example I would give is Hootie and the Blowfish. When they released their first album several years ago...they were everywhere. You couldnt turn on the television or radio without seeing or hearing Hootie and the Blowfish. They were so big that they were mentioned on Friends. They released a second album and no one cared. Hootie and the Blowfish , for all intents, disappeared from view.

This happens quite frequently and goes to prove Paul Simon's quote.

I also dont find her to be original. As stated, all of the artists I mentioned used costumes / other persona / performance art as part of their performance. I dont see Lady Gaga as doing anything ground breaking or original.

And by the way Disney Dad...I saw Klaus Nomi live. That proves I'm old.

Being a member of the female Gender, I don't see that my opinion, or any others expressed here, about Lady GaGa, has anything to do with her gender. I find her to be more of a marketing campaign, than talent, period. Nothing at all to do with her Gender.

And by the way Disney Dad...I saw Klaus Nomi live. That proves I'm old.

I don't even know who Klaus Nomi is...does that mean I am young ?!?! :rotfl: Actually, it probably just means I am out of touch as usual.

I am one that feels that Lady Gaga has a great voice. I also think that she has some really good music. I do think, however, that she has some "odd" videos. As a true fan of Madonna, I know that she also had a few strange videos. I think this is a musician's way of making themselves stand out from the rest.

Just an fyi... DisneyKevin... Darius Rucker, the lead singer of Hootie and The Blowfish, has a great country career now. I absolutely love him. Loved him with Hootie and love him now! Who would have picked that one. LOL.

Lady Gaga has a BEAUTIFUL voice. I have seen her live and she is an amazingly talented vocalist. Yes, she puts on a good show and is quite eccentric BUT if you strip all that away and give her a piano and tell her to sing, it is FABULOUS! Her voice is pure and raw and better than anything out there right now. IMO, she blows them all out of the water! She does not need all that digital tweaking crap that Britney Spears and even Madonna needs on occasion. Yes, she is a freak but she is a talented freak, LOL!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and music / talent appreciation is subjective......but this is a bit much.

Like you said, everybody is entitled to their opion. I personally would never tell somebody that their opinion was "a bit much" but that is just my opinion again, LOL!

I would rather pay $500 to hear and see Julie Andrews. Julie is time tested and better than anything out there. And yes, this is truly my own opinion.

I'm thrilled you quoted me because I love the podcast... it's the whole reason I joined these boards in the first place! :yay: I wasn't speaking to you personally, but rather, reflecting on the press/internet/public response to female artists in general. Be they authors/writers/singers. That's my agenda, which I brought to the table.

Daneenm: Take a cursory look at the media culture, in which I'm a sometimes-monk, and you will find that both women and men are harder on female artists. Especially if those artists try (originality is entirely subjective here) to stand out from the crowd. And again, this wasn't directly to the thread here, but based on what I've read/seen/heard elsewhere. Granted, I also thought everyone on the Dis hated Le Cellier and Animal Kingdom, and I sure was proven wrong on both counts! ;)

Please understand that this is just a silly discussion of singer's talents.

I meant absolutely nothing malicious by my statement.

I apologize if what I said offended you. I didnt mean to do that. Really.

But ...."nothing better out there" discounts Christina Aguilera, Audra McDonald, Susan Boyle, Celine Dion, Annie Lennox, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, k.d.lang, to name just a few, who in my estimation, can sing circles around Lady GaGa.

So...if it was just hyperbole...I get it. If it wasn't, then I'll just say that I disagree with what you've said.
