Talk me out of it. I haven't had them on in a long time but I saw someone the other day and she had the french tips on and they were beautiful. My problem is that I put them on and the next day I am sick of them! Plus, the expense is ridiculous. I guess I'll just keep my nubs! ;)

:lmao: I think you just talked yourself out of it, pal. I don't wear fake nails because I don't have the patience for the upkeep.

I had them for about a year. I just didn't like having to go in for a fill every two weeks or so. The place I go is so busy I would get there about 10 min. before they open on Saturday in order to be the first one in. After about a year I started having problems with the acrylic not sticking very well to my nails - it kept separating. So I had them removed. It took about a year for all the groves in my nails to grow out.

I am a former Nail Technician and I would advise against getting them done. I admit, nails done right are beautiful, but this day and age it's hard to find people who do them the right , safe way.
It's really damaging to your nails no matter where you get them done and it could take a full year for them to return to normal. It thins your nails when they file them to help the acrylic stick (and some places use drills which they shouldn't :() They make your nails brittle too and they will break easily for a long time afterward.
I say treat yourself to a manicure instead:goodvibes

On the other hand if you really want them badly which it doesn't sound like you do, then go for it. I'm sure you work hard for your money and can use some of it to make yourself happier :) Just make sure to go to a good salon that uses good products, it's worth the extra money ;)

Well, asking me is asking the wrong person- LOL I've been wearing them since 1995- and have always had them on; I love them! And if I had just my real nails I would bite them all off- I don't bite these:confused3 But ; I can't be without my nails.

I've had them almost consistantly for about a decade (since I was about 16 or 17.) I think my best reason I could give you to not do it, is for me it's kinda addicting, especially since if I do take them off; it takes a while for my regular nails to look regular again. I've done it forever, and sometimes I really don't feel like going to get them done, but I never get sick of them. If you get sick of them the next day, then I definetly don't think it's worth it for you. Good luck!

I had them once. I got them done for a wedding and kept them for a month- too much upkeep, too expensive, and when you take them off, your nails are ruined.
Love me a pedicure, though!

You don't want to have claws when you're an old crone. Seriously -- those things ruin your actual nails, and god knows what the chemicals do to you long-term.

And a lot of women who are convinced they have beautiful fake nails ... don't!

ow-harsh! My nails are beautiful; I get many compliments on them.

Ahhh...I just love acrylics. I had them for a long time years ago. I had them taken off...actually it was NOV 2006. My Nail Tech advised me on waiting a year to think about them again. Now it has been 2 years. I love the way my nails have healed. They look great BUT BUT I would just love acrylics again BUT not the upkeep nor the expense that comes with it. I think that is one of the first things I always notice on someone when I am speaking to them is their nails. And I love a French manicure.

DS is getting married in June and I may go back to them for that purpose....not sure yet. :headache:

I love my nails - I get 100% gels, no acrylic involved. I fill them every 3 weeks and keep them at a sport (short) length.

I have had some sort of artifial nail almost solid for 24 years from back in the acrylic days to the now state of the art gels that never break, never lift and look shiny and new for the duration. I almost always have a french tip - right now I have a silver glitter tip with a thin black line along the "moon" or the curve where the nail and the nail bed meet. It is my "holiday" look - it matches everything and has that holiday bling;)

ETA: oops, sorry we were supposed to be talking you out of them...........I pay $35 for a fill

I would love fake nails, but I can't wear them (or even nail polish) at work, so ... I'm one of the rare 40-somethings who've never had a manicure.

I get my nails done every 2 - 3 weeks. I am a habbitual nail biter and having them done is the only way I don't bite them.

Wait, you have never had a manicure.....you can ge manicures WITHOUT polish. I am here in the OC and I get manicures on a regular basis BUT w/o polish. They BUFF them to a SHINE. It is awesome. Inquire at your Nail Salon about a manicure (to clean up the nails..file, shape them etc) and then ask about BUFFING them. Mine shine!!! :goodvibes

I hate them.

I ONLY get them once a year - when we go to WDW so I dont have to worry about my nails chipping. I barely let them file my nails (NO ROTARY TOOL) so they come off easier when I get home, and even THEN, they are a pain to get off.

I got a set on in Sept for 2 weeks - and I still have a groove 3/4's of the way up my nail bed.

Dont do it.

I'm 45 and I never have either. I can't stand other people touching my nails--it creeps me out.

Most medical places I have been will now allow workers to wear them due to bacteria and the like that will grow beneath the nail. They can destroy nails and if you ever decide to stop wearing them you may never be able to grow long nails again.

That was enough to stop me :)

Of course if you really want them just enjoy them. Many nails I have seen are absolutely beautiful!

I just don't see the attraction . . . Fake nails are among the easiest things in the world for me to say "no" to.
