Ladies: Who's delivered a big baby?

DS has been measuring weeks ahead for a long time. They did an ultrasound at 36 weeks, and he weighed about 8 lbs. 12 oz.. The dr. said it can be off by as much as 10 oz. either way. That could be good; that could be bad! Plus, babies gain about 1/2 a lb. a week in the last month. We are going to induce at 39 weeks. My cervix is "favorable" and this isn't my first, plus I am of a bigger build (5'10"). I'm a little worried, though: ds was 7 lbs. 2 oz. and dd was 7 lbs. 4 oz. but are by xh. Something about combining dh and my DNA has created a whopper!!!
Any words of advice or success stories?

Both mine were C-sections I was measuring 40 weeks at like 7 months

DS was 8 pounds 8 ounces. No problem and first birth.
A neighbor that was a bout 5' 1" had a boy that weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces But surprisingly she didn't have too much of a problem.

My first baby was 9 pounds even. Delivered him naturally (no meds). You can do it! I have a good friend whose babies ranged between 9 pounds and 12 pounds - all born at home with no medication (except for the last, where her labour slowed down for some reason, so we went to the hospital - but he was still born with no medication, weighing just over 10 pounds).

Don't put too much stock in weights by ultrasounds. Everyone I know has had it off by way more than 10oz. My last DS was supposed to be 8lbs 5 oz by the ultrasound, and he weighed 7lbs and 2 oz.

Not me but my MIL had twins that were both big for twins. One was 7 pounds and the other was 8 pounds. This was about 30 years ago.

Be Prepared....LOL I had big babies my largest I was induced 2 weeks early because he measured so big...He was well over 9lbs... I used a midwife not a Dr. but I managed to deliver him without any episotomy or tears what so ever...very thankful for my midwife. He did get stuck for a few minutes and she need me to change position (which wouldn't happen with a Doctor I assume) and was able to unstick him....

I would see how early my Dr would induce if the baby is really measuring large. I see no reason to stay pregnant and extra 10 days with a baby that is doing nothing but getting larger....Good Luck

Be Prepared....LOL I had big babies my largest I was induced 2 weeks early because he measured so big...He was well over 9lbs... Actually this is incorrect. ACOG is now recommending that a woman not be induced before 39 weeks. 10 days does make a difference for a baby, especially a baby that is induced versus ready to come out.

My little baby was 8lbs14oz.

My youngest was born three weeks early (not induced) and he was 10lbs.

Neither were C-Sections. We managed ok.

I was basing my statements on my own experience....which would be totally different then the OP..My first was born 3 weeks early on her own - water broke...she was 7lbs 8oz. So, having my second induced 2 weeks early didn't seem odd to me and it was 19 yrs ago so times have changed I see..

My doc doesn't really worry about weights by ultrasound. He says that he'd seen them be up to a pound wrong. He did however estimate my son's weight within an ounce-- not using the ultrasound weight. (We moved so he has only seen me for one pregnancy.)

Mine haven't gotten bigger. I have several friends that this isn't true for either.

OP, I'm no help on the big baby front. I think alot of these women would lynch me if they knew how big my biggest was. That said, I do wish you an easy labor and safe delivery.

My oldest daughter weighed 6lbs 7 ounces when I gave birth to her (and my second daughter was adopted) but one of my sisters has five biological children and all were over 9 lbs. Her first and her last were the two biggest. The first one weighed a bit over 11 pounds (11 lbs. 3 ounces) and her last weighed just shy of 11 pounds (10lbs. 14 ounces, I think). All of her children are healthy and none were born by c-section. My other sister has two biological children and both weighed more than 9 lbs. but less than 10lbs and were also born healthy, although the second one was delivered by c-section. Neither of my sisters had gestational diabetes and neither of them are large women.

My daughter was 8 lbs 6 oz, that labor was hard and was 2.5 hours of pushing because I had back labor.
My son was 9 lbs 5 oz and that was 15 minutes of pushing and out he came, Easy peasy. I'm only 5'4".
The aftermath of the episiotomy(with DD) and tearing(with DS) was the worst part of the whole experience, I won't lie to you.

My 3ird was guessed to be at 8lbs 7oz the day before I had her. She was 9lbs. I did end up having an emergency c-section because when they did a u/s when I was in labor it showed the cord was around her neck (she wouldn't drop into the birth control after being in labor for 6 hours). Her heart beat never once dropped if I hadn't insisted on a u/s we wouldn't of known.

DS was 9lbs 9oz and 23 inches long!!! Epidural wore off before I started to push. They did end up cutting me to get him out and one of his shoulders got stuck in the process. No c-section though. I only got 1 ultrasound during the second trimester, so we had no idea he was going to be as big as he was until it was all said and done.

My first was 8lb 10oz at 41 weeks. Nobody suspected she was that large (I'm 5'2", DH is 5'10") ... but I managed the old fashioned way and don't really have any horror stories. Although, don't stock up on newborn diapers b/c they won't fit a baby that big!

My doctor wanted to induce me with my second at 39 weeks b/c she predicted another "big baby" ... I declined the induction and my DD was born at 40weeks and 1 day weighing in at a whopping 7lb 2 0z. So much for predicting birth weight.

my oldest was 10lbs 12 oz and 23 inches and my youngest was 10lbs 13.5 oz and 26 inches. both were 42 weeks gestation-my doctor did not believe in inducing unless someones life was in danger. You can do this just fine

First baby was 10lbs, 8oz. And he was almost 3 weeks late...no shrinkage there. And yes, the dates were all correct. My second was 7lbs, 8oz..born 2 days after my due date. Third arrived in at 8lbs,10oz. Her ultrasound, about 7 hrs prior to her birth, showed she would be in the 7.5 range...ah, no. She evidently grew an inch and gained a pound in that 7 hrs. I was induced with her, about 10 days prior to my due date due to high b/p.

My ob/gyn didn't put much stock in the ultrasound. He said it was just to make sure things had progressed and that he seldom relied on what it 'told' him. He had never seen one to be accurate closer than a pound or so. Two different dads....first two kids the dad was 6' and on the muscular side, which explains ds's size, but no other babies in the family, on either side were that large. He was about 22'' long. Second one had same dad, but was normal sized and about 20''. Third one was 22'' long and had a different dad..he is 6'4'' tall. I'm 5'8'' so having longer kids would be expected.

My youngest was 8lbs. 15oz. and 22in. I'm 110lbs soaking wet. I also had to endure many stress tests because I was measuring "too small".
