O.k., for now, this is my only place to turn...LOL! I'm 36 y/o and for about a year now have had terribly oily skin. I've switched makeups, facial products, you name it...to no avail. I've never had problems with breakouts and still don't. My entire life I've had combination skin, but have to admit....no real problems that I can complain about. Is it my age or what?!?! LOL!!! I'm beginning to think it is! I've changed everything I can possibly think of! It's driving me crazy! I could probably own stock in the little oil blotting papers, but they only work for awhile.

Anyone have any suggestions? Do you use any good oil control products for extremely oily skin?

Thanks ahead of time!!!

Are you on any different meds that may have changed this? Also, have you tried Aveda products? I always had issues with this too....too oily, otherwise my face would get dried out. Use cetaphil as a cleanser and Aveda products, and that seems to do the trick.

I use Cetaphil face wash and dove day/night cream. keeps my skin pretty balanced.

do you moisturize? some people with oily skin won't use moisturizer as they think it adds to the problem...which it really doesn't for some oddball reason. :)

Minnie,

I'm on no meds at all, and never have been. I also use Cetaphil to cleanse my face. I've never tried Aveda...not sure I've ever heard of it. Where do you find this product?

On the upside....everyone I've asked about this issue, they've all told me..."well look at it this way, with oily skin, you'll have less wrinkles." LOL!

Thanks again for the tips!!

ok, this is going to sound nuts but it's true...i had (i thought) very oily skin...someone told me that my skin may be dry and that it's producing more oil to try and make up for that...So, i purchased a moisturizer and got rid of all my products for oily skin...wouldn't you know it, my skin is so much better now...i don't have a shiny oily face all day..I'm not using powder all day to try and control the shine because i really don't get shiny anymore...I hope this helps...

MBeds,

So do you use an "oil free" moisturizer? Leave it to me to have overly dry skin and compensate by producing the next Valdez Oil Spill. ;)

No, i do not use an oil free moisturizer...I use different kinds but right now i'm using the Bobbie Brown in the jar...i use it at night only and a tinted moisturizer in the morning...
I really believe that all the oil free and all the products for oily skin was drying me out horribly and in return causing a big oily mess...
Most of those products for oily skin contain a lot of alcohol which obviously drys your skin...
I say give it a try...If you do, let me know how it turns out...good luck!

I was taught that there is a difference between oil and moisture. So, even if you have oily skin you can still use an "oil-free" or light moisturizer. I have no idea if that is true but I was taught this in skin care classes.

I have also started using less "strong" products on my oily skin and the oil doesn't seem to be as bad. However, I just turned 40 and I'm sure that has something to do with it.
I also use Cetaphil--the oily/combination formula.
