From what I've heard, the body often retains water because you have not taken in enough water. It kind of stores it "just in case." So, the best way to relieve the symptoms of retained water is to drink lots of water.
Coffee and tea are both diuretics. Sometimes after a "binge" day of bad foods I get puffy and awful feeling. Having some extra tea and drinking lots of water often gets me back to normal by the next day.
Also, stay away from the salty foods for a bit and take advantage of eating some of summer's best water-filled fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, etc.
I don't know about the extra water. I clicked on this thread hoping for a solution, too. I had to drink a gallon of water right before having an ultrasound last week. I've been puffy & bloated since then - from drinking all that extra water.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of water is going to help.
The key is diuretics--things that make you pee out the water already in you. Water itself is not a diuretic, but hopefully you won't retain regular old water either. Without having a diuretic, I don't think the OP will readily release the retained water/fluid.
Not always a bad thing honestly...I dont have a gall bladder, so I have what was dubbed on another thread about gall bladders "Dumping Syndrome". A few days of not going may be a good thing...
As for the water retention..I will rustle up some green tea, but not till I get home. I could choke down a cup of coffee, I normally drink a lot of soda..I have already downed a bottle of water, and been in the potty more times than I normally am, so maybe its helping..
i had this issue for some reason last spring here is how i got rid of it. as crazy as it sounds drink more water you wouldn't think it would work but it does. the other thing is eat lots of melon water melon is the best it balances out the salt and water ratio in your body also try taking in things with potassium that really help balance out salt in your body it actually helps a great deal with water retention. and lastly its going to sound absurd but it works take a with your foot draw the alphabet in the air do it one foot at a time several times a day and it really does help.
Have a cup of warm water with the juice of one whole lemon. It works immediately. I have a problem with sodium and end up bloated quite often. This is my go-to remedy. Works every time. In fact, I'm sipping one right now!
