Ladies please tell me about your "morning sickness"

My morning sickness for each of my two children was completely different.

With DS I vomited at least once a day (if not 2-3 times) from 6 weeks pregnant until the day he was born (I vomited during labor as well).

With DD I started out the same way and was really depressed because whereas with DS I could stay in bed all day and rest if I wanted to, but with having a 2 year old I couldn't do that the second time. So I was prepared for the worst. But after 3 months it started slowly subsiding and by 4 months pregnant it was totally gone and I never vomited or had nausea again after that.

I don't have a clue why with one pregnancy you're sick/nauseous all the time and with another you have very little trouble. It's weird, I know.

They probably have better medications for morning sickness now, so hopefully you can find something that will help you.

I feel so bad for you! I had horrible morning sickness for pretty much my entire 1st pregnany so I can relate. 1 thing that helped and was recommended by my OB was taking a half a tablet of Unisom and a B-6 tablet together. Also another thing he suggested was wearing Seabands. I did but idk if they really helped cuz I was taking the other regimen at the same time but I was willing to try anything! Good luck and I hope it gets better for you.

I think that some women can have varying levels of pregnancy hormones. The more you have, the more the morning sickness. I don't know if the doctor was just trying to make me feel better or what but he did tell me that OB/GYNs like to see morning sickness because it is an indication that there are hormones surging that will support the pregnancy well. :confused3

So, I think some pregnancies can vary and some women's bodies just do the exact same thing each time. It also depends on how sensitive you are to the hormones. Being sick/nauseous while taking estrogen-type birth control should have been my first clue that I was headed for trouble...

I had any dang time sickness. Not just for mornings. I have a daughter. I lost 10 lbs. This is one of the reasons I have one kid.

I had morning sickness with both my kids. I use to eat chips and chip dip. It made me feel a lot better. My sister ate Jala[eno cheese dip with Fritos to cure hers.

I am almost 10 weeks pregnant and I am miserable. I am nauseus pretty much 24/7 and I am having a lot of trouble making myself eat anything.

I keep hoping it will get better but it just seems to be getting worse. Last night I laid in bed dry heaving for over an hour. I also vomit too, but only 3-5 times a week so far. It's mostly just constant, persistent nausea.

I was occasionally nauseus during my pregnancy with DS, but nothing like this.

When did your morning sickness peak? When did it let up? What helped you get through it?

Thanks for any info! :goodvibes

I never had one moment of morning sickness with our son. I felt great, could eat whatever I wanted (except raisins for some odd reason--they turned my stomach on sight) and gained far too much weight.

My second pregnancy (daughter), was a nightmare of morning sickness. It began before I even thought I was pregnant (my first clue I was pregnant) and lasted through my sixth month. I would be fine getting ready for work and on the one mile drive, I would be hanging out the car door.

Like you, it was pretty much 24/7 and I was having a tough time gaining any weight. In fact, I believe I only gained around 23#s with her and the hospital staff thought I was a premature labor patient when I presented. She was actually born on her due date.

After my sixth month everything settled down and I had no problems with food, nausea or vomiting. I know it is crazy, but one thing I could consistently eat was a peanut butter, chocolate ice cream sundae. :confused3 Odd, I know, but no one complained since I couldn't gain weight. :lmao:

I hope your morning sickness passes sooner rather than later.

I had morning sickness (at any time of day) from about week 5 until about week 22. Off and on for the most part. I found that crackers actually made me feel worse, but I did find that nibbling on ginger snap cookies helped quite a bit!

I was pretty ill from 6 weeks to 17 weeks, and lost about 20 pounds because the only things I could eat without gagging were crunchy lettuce (sometimes with blue cheese dressing), sour jolly ranchers, lemonade and bubbly water.

I, of course, ate other things, but those were the only things that didn't make me sick.

But one day I woke up and it was all over. It was so weird.

This is true and I swear it's what got me through it! My first pregnancy I wasn't sick at all and I had a miscarriage at week 9.

When I was pregnant with my daughter I was sick all the time until about 3.5 months. I work outside the home and I alternated between Boston Market mashed potatoes and a slice of plain pizza from a local pizzeria for lunch every day during that time. Lots of crackers too! I would try other things at home when I wasn't so worried about having to 'issue a refund', lol.

I hope it subsides for you soon. But it's worth it!

I'm 15 weeks today and still dealing with "morning" sickness. I'm lucky in that I've only vomited a few times but I can and do get gaggy at all times, night or day. It started at exactly 6 weeks (while we were at Disney- we stayed as far away from Casey's as possible- the smell of that place alone made me want to throw up), got worse around 8 weeks, started to ease a bit around 12 weeks but I still have it at 15 weeks. I've lost weight because of it, so I'm seeing the doctor again today just 2 weeks after my last appointment to make sure I haven't lost anymore. I've found having a piece of hard candy(particularly lemon drops) in my mouth helps.

I'm just ready to start feeling human again- isn't that what's supposed to happen in the 2nd trimester?

Thanks everyone. Just hearing I'm not the only one makes me feel better.

My DH is a wonderful man usually, but for some reason he seems frustrated with me all the time now. He doesn't seem to understand just how bad I feel all the time. :guilty:

I hope that it subsides for you soon but if nothing else you are definitely not alone. I had morning sickness in my other pregnancies but nothing like I am having this time. I was sick from before I even took the pregnancy test (actually, it was one of the things that made me think to test) and I've been sick ever since. I'm 31 weeks now and still nauseous all the time. Nowhere near as bad as it was in the beginning but I'm still on Zofran and still getting sick frequently. I did try a lot of other things- B6, ginger tablets, ginger candies, ginger ale, small meals, crackers, seabands, etc... nothing helped. Dr's office put me on phenergan at first and it took the edge off but didn't really help too much. With the Zofran I was able to at least start keeping liquids down but at the beginning I was doing well if I could keep down a 2 liter ginger ale over a 2 day period of time. I lost 30 pounds and at 31 weeks I've only put back on about 8 of those. I've been living on Dairy Queen slushes, light on the syrup. DH has been really good about buying a lot of them for me, just to try to get me to consume *something*. Good luck and I really hope that it subsides soon for you

ETA- if you do wind up on Zofran, talk to your doctor about a stool softener as well. Sorry for the TMI, but I didn't realize the Zofran would be so constipating and since I wasn't eating it didn't occur to me that it was too weird to not be going to the bathroom as much, but I learned my lesson when I had a lot of bleeding and had to go to the hospital.

Mine was horrible. With my first pregnancy, all they had available to give me was Phenegran. It didn't help much at all and I threw up about 20 times daily until my 7th month. I had to be rehydrated several times at the hospital. With my second, I was given Zofran and that helped tremendously. I still felt kind of sick to my stomach and not much sounded good to eat, but I wasn't throwing up the 20+ times a day like I was before I started taking it. I think my morning sickness lasted until my 6th month with my second.

Definitely! I forgot to mention that. If you're not careful, that can be just as bad as, if not worse than, the morning sickness.

I had severe morning sickness with all three of my boys. I would vomit & dry heave daily, it was emotionally exhausting!
I got so sick I lost at least 12 pounds, and up to 16 with the last one. It;s not like I don't like to eat, I couldn't wait to love food again!
I was only in the 130's when I got pregnant so my OB wasn't thrilled with the weight loss. I took vitamins from the health food store, the prescription ones made me so sick!
With my 2nd the Dr. said Zofran or the hospital because I couldn't hold down water. My MIL came over to bring me to an appt. because I couldn't drive being so weak & I think I scared the heck out of her with how bad I looked. I did take it sparingly for a couple of weeks, but with the third I made it without it, to my Dr.'s dismay. All three were healthy & all over eight pounds, even though sometimes all I could get down was a couple of pretzels and Gatorade. The only advice I have is if anything remotely nutritious appeals to you eat it, don't be afraid of getting sick, dry heaving happens anyway. I noticed with all three that it would "peak" at about 8-11 weeks and then it would get better slowly. By 6 months I would just get the occasional bad day & it was usually when I was overtired. With my last one I just kept telling myself to be grateful no matter what I felt like. I kept thinking about people who were suffering through rounds of chemo, I can't even imagine going through that!

Oh yes, totally. There needs to be a warning on the bottle about this!! One pill can wreak havoc for DAYS!!

Yeah, I think mine forgot how bad I was last time. I'm supposed to be in tip-top shape, and *wanting* to cook and clean... YEAH right,. The smell of cleaning products and meat have me green and running to the bathroom.

This pregnancy has been killing me. I got severe morning sickness where I felt pukey all day long starting at 5 weeks and it lasted til about 22 weeks. Went away for about 8 weeks and came back at 30 weeks.

Fresh Ginger was my savior. I would buy a big piece and slice it super thin, steep it in boiling water and drink it as a tea. If I needed a quick fix and couldn't wait, I'd cut a tiny piece off and just chew it. The flavor is intense but it would calm my stomach.

Peppermint gum also helps.

This baby is a boy....with my girls I had nausea, but this was the worst.

Good luck! I hope it subsides for you!

I had it with DS4 from 6 weeks until about 24 weeks. I threw up about 10-12times a day on average. It was horrible, especially since I work FT. I was constantly running to the bathroom. The weird thing was I didn't have any aversions so I just did my best to keep eating, even if I threw up that same food an hour ago. This may be TMI, but try something like the Ensure shakes. Those tasted good going down and coming back up :lmao: Stay away from rice and cereal. Those are the absolute pits when they come back up!!!!

I nibbled constantly through the day. That seemed to help a bit. Peppermint helped a little, but it really only delayed the inevitable. It usually subsided my nasuea for a few minutes so I could get through a conference call or something like that at work. At about 12 weeks the doctor finally put me on Zofran. That helped tremendously. I still had waves of nasuea but it reduced my actual vomiting to 1-2 times a day, so at least I could function. I went off the Zofran at 24 weeks and by then I was throwing up about 2-3 times a week through the rest of the pregnancy. THe last week or so before delivery I was back to 1-3 times a day.

The good news is that I had no other problems during my pregnancy. I also didn't have other kids so I could go home and collapse after work. I am so terrified of being sick again like that which is a huge reason I just am not ready yet to go for baby #2. Don't let the doctors brush you off. You will know what is normal and what is excessive. My friend is preggo with #2 and is similar to how I was with DS and she now completely understands what I went through.

Forgot to add...I totally agree with PP's about a stool softener with Zofran. I didn't think I needed one and boy did I pay for that one big time! Also, if you go on it, make sure you take it every 8 hours ON THE DOT. I was late once by about an hour and I was violently sick for about a day. Then around 20 weeks I thought I could just go down to one pill every 12 hours and holy cow was I wrong about that too. I have never been that sick in my life!
