I did more courses of Lupron than advised for endometriosis and I'd do it again if things got that bad again. Yes, the hot flashes sucked and I was pretty much totally disinterested in "bedroom activities". I was in so much pain and it really helped me. I think if I were in your boat, I would probably do the continuous birth control pills. Lupron is only a temporary solution. You can't be on it forever. Luckily in my case the affects of the Lupron were long lasting for my endometriosis.

1Had same issues and DR suggested ablation. I had 3 kids and was about 30. DH had a vasectomy so there would be no more kids but I just didn't want to do the ablation so young. I got an IUD and it did help a little. I started to gain weight and was told it likely was not from the IUD (it was probably due to hitting 30 and I have climbed steadily since then). Had the IUD removed after maybe 2 years. Then tried birth control that was supposed to be good for acne (as I also have adult acne). And, nope, acne still an issue and still the weight gain. So I dealt with it for a few more years and then, around 41, I had a D&C since US was showing a thick stripe. There was lots of fibroid tissue and they removed it. I haven't had heavy periods since then. I'm 43 now and I actually have very short and light periods but they are all over the calendar (meaning maybe 3 weeks from last or 5 weeks, I never know).

I had severe bleeding and was anemic. They put me on birth control pills - got a blood clot. Had to stop taking it, although it didn't help anyway. Had an ablation - turns out I have fibroids, so it didn't work, still bleed heavily. Then they tried Depo shots - and I bled for 18 WEEKS - stopped taking that. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on December 19th. This all took place over two years. I was not very nice when talking to my GYN and said enough is enough, take it out. She still wouldn't do it, something about a scarred uterus (because of two C-sections and the ablation) so she farmed me out to a hospital over an hour away and that doctor will do it robotically. They say I can come home same day!!
So, to answer your question, I wouldn't do the ablation, I would ask for a robotic hysterectomy. But I know insurance calls the shots these days and the docs have to show that they have tried everything else. And if you are over 40 - be careful of birth control pills. After many blood tests and a procedure when they went into my groin and looked at my veins/arteries to see if they were lying on each other, it was determined the reason I got a blood clot was solely because of the birth control.
But to be fair - I do have friends that have had an ablation and faired very well. They only have spotting now.

The best thing I ever did was the ablation in Dec. 2013, I am so happy that my life doesn't revolve around the nightmares of unexpected heavy bleeding and surprise visits.

Best thing I ever did was get an ablation. It was 6 years ago! No more uh, problems! More money for Disney since I'm not buying supplies :)

Lupron is or was an expensive drug. $600 a shot except my insurance would cover it 100% if they mailed me the drug and have the nurse in the office give it to me Weird I know

Actually, I am not worried about the actual shot at all, just the effects of it. I begged for a hysterectomy, but my doctor won't do it, even though I have fainted 2 times this year from severe anemia. My iron level is 2, and I am starting iron infusions next week.
Sorry, but I would find a new doctor.

You are fainting due to anemia? And she won't discuss a hysterectomy? Thanks for your time. Bye.

I had an ablation in June 2015, within a few weeks I found out that it did not work and my periods actually got worse after that. I ended up having a hysterectomy a few months ago.
