LADIES ONLY: Returns?

Might not help with this purchase, but do you have a Nordstrom near you? I get all my bras there. First, they have professional fitters. There is a good chance if you are getting chafing/blisters etc that it is not a proper fit. Also, they have a wonderful return policy, so even if you wore it, you could return it if you are having problems.

The Nordstroms that I went to was a joke in their bra fitting area !! They told my mother she was a 38 FFF and I was a 40 EEE I fit comfortably into a regular store 38 DD. (VS and another store fit me that size to.) The bra's they wanted me to buy were not only outrageously expensive but also way to big and when they gapped on me, they told me it was okay and that's how they should fit. Whatever !!

Oh, and I should add that when I worked in the lingerie dept of a different store many, MANY years ago, our policy was to accept returns (for an exchange) if the item had already been worn, but no way in hell would the used item then have been returned to stock. That's both unsanitary and disgusting and violated company policy. The returned items would be destroyed after the exchange was processed.

I know this is a little different, but wearable items sold by Bath and Body Works that were returned while I worked there were also destroyed upon return if they had been worn. And I'm talking seriously destroyed, like slashed to ribbons with scissors. I did it myself to a couple of robes that were returned in, um, less than sanitary condition. Blech.

Afraid I would be a bit skeeved out regarding the returns. Either:
1) They take the return, give you your money back and throw the bra in the bin because it is definately used & not hygenic - if it has rubbed enough to give blisters, then just think of all those skin cells on the band; or
2) They take it back, put a replacement tag on it and try to pass it off as new to somebody else.

Sorry, you might be a nice person but I do not want your dead skin cells around my ****ies

Or 3) they return the defective garment to the manufacturer for a credit
or 4) throw away/destroy the item in question

I can't imagine returning used lingerie to stock. :confused3

If you're going to be at the mall anyways, give it a try. The worst they can say is no. But honestly, Dillard's is pretty strict with their returns, and if you go back to the same person that rang it up for you than your chances of return drop a lot because of their stupid "commission" based sales. Did you not try the bra on before you left the store?

I did, and it was very comfortable in the store. The fit expert even checked it. I bought two different kinds by the same company and one feels great. The other one, it didn't become painful until about halfway through the day. But by the end it was the single most uncomfortable piece of clothing I have ever worn. There is no way I will wear that particular one again.

ETA: I do not want someone to wear something that I have worn all day. Maybe I should wash it first? But then again, if you think about all the people who have tried it on before you bought it (and possibly people who were unclean), wouldn't you wash it first anyway?

I feel bad about it, but bras are expensive and I'm a little disappointed I spent so much on an item I can't even wear (and it's not too small. It has to do with the construction of the wire/boning on the sides.)

I personally wouldn't do it - same as if I wore a pair of shoes around all day (that felt fine in the shop) only to find out they rubbed. I'd chalk to down to experience. This is why when you find a really good bra/pair of shoes/pair of jeans, you should buy as many as you can afford :rotfl: Nicely fitting clothes are gold-dust!

I really do not think that any reputable chain would resell a used bra. Nor do I think you should feel bad about about returning it. The store will return to the manufacturer for a credit. I am in no way condoning wear and return for all sorts of items without some type of underlying defect, but this is the type of situation that generous return policies (again such as Nordstrom) are intended to cover.

I would return and ask for a replacement (not a refund)- perhaps another one of the kind that is comfy.

I'm getting ready to return a bra I've worn 3 times. On the third time the underwire broke. I hand wash and hang to dry, I don't think it should break so quickly. I want a replacement, not money. I doubt any respectable lingerie store will resell used garments, especially like mine that is broken!

I returned one to Kohl's that I had worn for a day. I still had the tags and took them with me they just were not attached. They didn't want to take it back but I told them how horribly uncomfortable it was and how I could not have known that without wearing it, had to take the tags off to wear it. They took it back along with another one of the same style that I had not worn and still had the tags.

Ignore the people saying it's disgusting to return a bra you have already worn. If I was working when you described your situation, I'd return it (with permission from my manager, of course). Newsflash people: Retail associates are not dumb enough to put worn undergarments back on the sales floor. Not to mention, just because tags are on something that you buy, doesn't mean a person hasn't worn it and then returned it. ;)

Dillards is pretty strict about not allowing returns if the undergarment has been worn, thank god. The last thing I want, is to buy a bra that someone has sweated in all day.:crazy2:

They won't re-sell something that has been worn. They'll either file it as a damage, or they'll send it back to the manufacturer.

I worked for a local dept. store that took EVERYTHING back. Worn a day, worn a year, it didn't matter. They just wanted the customer to be happy. I once had to take back a pair of underwear that had obviously been worn. My manager was adamant that I take them back. :scared: I used a piece of tissue paper to handle them.:lmao:

Speaking as someone who has been in retail management for 10 years (4 as an intimate apparel manager) please just wash it before you try to bring it back.... I know that sounds like common sense, but you'd be surprised!

Thanks for the advice. I'll wash it when I do laundry tonight and then try to take it back. Since the other kind I bought was the same price, I'll see if they can exchange it.

It's that Modern Movements Brand they have in their department. The one that was insanely uncomfortable is their "ultimate t-shirt bra". I bought it because I wear a lot of knits and the display said it was supposed to be invisible under knits and was one of their "top 10 most comfortable bras." I forget what the other one was called, I'd have to look. So if you are going bra shopping, avoid that bra! They have a kind of boning on the side to add structure to it, and that is what is causing the problems. They need more padding between the boning and the skin.

If you are going to wash it, make sure you check out how the brand recommends washing their bra. I'd be afraid of the sales associate thinking you damaged it in the washing machine and that's why it's uncomfortable.

This is an odd question, but has anybody ever successfully returned a bra? I bought one at Dillard's last week that seemed really nice in the store. But after wearing it all day it was very painful and part of the wire was rubbing a blister onto my sides. I want to return it, but the policy states that it must have a tag and obviously the tag has been removed. If I can't return it, it's not the end of the world. But I really don't want to spend all that money on a bra that I can't even wear.

and I thought this was going to be about tax returns.....!!!:rotfl:

policy - as in paper tag that states the price?? I would still return it anyway, they may not be able to give you money but able to exchange or store credit.

i used to work at a children's store that was great about returns. but when something had obviously been worn (and/or stained/washed), we'd mark it as defective.

however, dillards is HORRIBLE about returns. i bought an expensive purse once and didn't notice a small pen mark on it. i never carried it anywhere. i never cut the tags. it was in the dillards back except when i pulled it out of the bag, and noticed the mark. they accused me of marking on the purse and refused to return it. they told me "their clients would notice the mark because their clients were picky." my husband took it in and proceeded to READ the return policy over and over again, louder and louder, until they finally agreed to accept the return. ;)

I once returned one to the manufacturer-- Vanity Fair, with no problem. It was the same situation.

No offense, but how can you wear a painful bra all day? If anything, if you can't go an hour without noticing "Hey this hurts". You can try to get a refund or store credit, but I don't think the shop will take back your sweaty bra.

OT[/B]
I was in Victoria's Secret at Xmas time. I purchased 2 nightshirts but got the wrong size. I actually did not like the quality of them, very thin for the price. While buying them they gave me that free "cupcake" promo which was a pair of thong undies. When I returned the nightshirts the clerk asked me for the cupcake BACK. I told her that I did not bring that with me. I did not think they would want THAT returned. She got her manager to approve the return of the nightshirts w/o the cupcake.................NOW THAT WAS ODD. They wanted the undies back.................:scared:

Ha! I would have told her I was currently wearing them and ask if I could use the dressing room to take them off. I can't imagine someone wanting a used thong back.:scared:

That is SO disgusting!!! I could not imagine being the person returning that!!! I would not return the bra either though after wearing it an entire day-I would just go buy another and chalk it up as a lesson learned.
