My hubby and I have been racking our brain as to how to theme our December Vow Renewal. We are both enamorate of the coast, the sea and it was a no brainer when it came to choosing the Yacht Club as our Venue for our ceremony.

We had a Christmas themed wedding many years ago and loved it. This time we are looking for a seaside, nautical theme, something catchy that we can use for our invitations, decor etc. I thought about using platinum and pink, or possibly red for our colors but we are having a hard time making up our minds.

We want an elegant, intimate and somewhat "tropical" affair. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks a million!! :grouphug:

It sounds like you already have a theme with the Yacht Club:) A Seaside or Tropical event should be no problem. If you check out my trip log you will see my seashell name cards and sand castle centerpieces--might that help? I think on the centerpiece thread too there are some really awesome tropical centerpieces...

Thanks for your response Codie. I know the nautical theme is understood since we are hosting at the Yacht Club. I guess what I was looking for is a "catch phrase" for our Save the Date's, Newsletter for guests etc. We love Lilo and Stich but the theming at the Yacht Club seems more formal.

Any suggestions?

Well I was looking for a nautical theme for Living Seas (one that was not fish!). Here is the list I brainstormed for myself. Don't laugh -- it was brainstorming! You never know what might trigger your creativity! I was trying to come up with ideas for centerpieces.

The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Pirates of the Caribbean, seashells, fish, lighthouses, ships

I also came up with some ideas for table names from an idea in the centerpiece thread (I think it was Twojo?):
Ariel's Grotto, Mermaid Lagoon (Peter Pan), Nemo's Anemone, Pirates' Cove, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Castaway Cay, Stormalong Bay, Sea of Love

I think we're going with lighthouses. It seemed a little more classy than fun. If we were at the YC that would be perfect, with the lighthouse there.

Here's the link to the centerpiece thread if you want to see it. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=13953980

we had a under the sea theme for our reception at ariels this past march. our introduction was to sea of love, which was also the name of our sweetheart table. we made our own centerpieces & each had its own theme like pirates cove, finding nemo, paradise, the lighthouse, etc. each table also had glass bowls with shells & floating candles inside. if you want pm me your email address & ill email you an invitation to view my wedding photos. for the reception we went with blue & silver colors, we had personalized blue napkins with silver shells & our names. on the cake table we had glass bubbles & shells. all very water themed especially with ariels large aquarium next to the dance floor.

theme ideas:
shells
sea of love
nautical
were hooked (pirates)
under the sea
blue & silver or green & gold always make me think of water, tropical, etc.

congratulations on your vow renewal, how long have you been married?

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your ideas...it helps a lot!! I think we may lean towards the Under the Sea theme. We are doing an Intimate Vow Renewal so unless the Yachtsman Steakhouse will let us decorate the table, the theming will be in the invitations, newletters, guest gift bags and our attire. So I am excited!! Now to find the perfect wedding dress with a "tropical theme" for a December wedding!!

Twojo21, we will be married 11 years on Dec. 2nd and together 15 wonderful years....it's nice to know the magic still lives!! :lovestruc

Also Katie (kt27 I believe is her screen name) had a theme "flip flops and fairytales" too cute. I thought that was awesome!

I have a few ideas for your seaside theme...

Placecards: You could write your guests names on sand dollars and place them in a box full of beachy white sand.

Favors: Give your guests chocolate shaped shells. These seaside candles from ebay are also cute: Candles

Centerpieces: Fill clear glass bowls with colored water. Layer the bottom with sea shells and fake starfish. Float a candle on the top.

You could also place colored sand in the bottom of the bowl (available at craft stores). Fill with water...you could tint it light blue. Place a castle on the bottom of the bowl. Add a bit of fake seaweed for affect.

Cake: Have your cake look like a sand castle

These are also cute:

Starfish Soap
Beach In A Bottle
Placecard Holder

Thanks :) My wedding theme is "Cinderella/Once Upon A Time" but we were thinking about doing a beach wedding so I have thought a lot about this theme!

My theme as Pixie08 said was "Flip Flops & Fairytales..."

Hi KT27, I adore your theme!!! I have seriously been thinking about doing something along those lines...if it is ok with you of course. My husband really liked the idea for our vow renewal too!!

I love the place card holders....sooo cute!! I wish we were able to have a Custom however we are hosting an Intimate. I wonder of the Yachtsman would allow me to put down some favors and place card holders? There are so many fun things you can do.

Does anyone know where I can buy software that would have the DIsney Font and Clip Art that had Lilo and Stitch or the Little Mermaid? I think it would be so much fun to make the Save the Dates, newsletters etc. Fantasia Sam made some adorable gift tags and other items for her guests.

I am so excited!! Thanks for your help!!

I know the Disney software is hard to get right now but there is a ton of free disney clip art on the web!

I also loved KT's theme...i was so jealous that I had not been that creative:)

Seaprincess...what about "Message in a Bottle"...you could have a lot of fun with that and it could carry over to the steakhouse.

That's adorable. I don't know where to get them, but I have seen cute little tiny bottles with corks. You could stick a message inside like a fortune! Or just a thank-you from the bride and groom. I'll have to look for bottles and see if they're reasonable....

Thanks! Here is what our logo looked like:

This was on our welcome tote bags, Randy caught a shot of one hanging in Mom's room while we were getting ready.

I suggest making a personalized monogram that goes along with your theme. I made tshirts, tote bags, favor tags & welcome packets with the logo. Alot of guests wore flip flops :)

Katie, you made all of your own things, right? How did you do it -- buy that special iron-on printer paper? I am thinking that a new printer might be a better investment so I can make things myself, instead of paying to order everything.

I thought of you today! I bought a post it note pad with flip flops on it at Target.

My DBF has decided he wants to wear his military uniform. I asked him before and he never cared. He's in the Air National Guard right now, used to be in the Navy. Good luck to you and your DH. I saw your post on another board.
