I appologize for what I am sure is going to be a long post! This will be my first time to Disney, we will be going June 9th thru 15th! And with all the summer attire coming out i need to know what I should be preparing for.

Ok so first let me start by saying that I own I dunno maybe 2 pair of shorts that I rarely ever wear. I am 27 I work as a hairdresser and the shop i work at has a strict dress code it has to be at least business casual and dress pants or knee length or below skirts or dresses and black and white so thats my usual 5 to 6 days a week attire all year round . At home working in the yard or working out it is workout syle capris and plain teeshirts and I wear alot of Sundresses of all lengths in the spring and summer!

The reason why I don't wear shorts is it is difficult to find any that fit right on me. I am very short but am rather curvy I am 4ft 9in I only weigh 105 (i know that seems like nothing but it is about 10lbs heavier than what I am use to and my norm) I have gained several pounds in the last 3 years and am not happy with my body at all I seem to carry all of my weight from my bellybutton to my knees. My waist is relatively small around but I do have the muffin top the round pooching baby belly(i always look about 4 months pregnant) a couple back fat pooches a bigger butt for how small i am and carry a bit of weight on my inner thighs. I am trying to work really hard to get in better shape with but my super busy ever changing work schedule and eating habits it has been hard! (People always think I am crazy bc they think I look fine in clothing but I always always layer my clothes I wear a snug fitting tank top tucked in under everything which helps to smooth everything out. Even when I wear a tank top in the summer I still do this I wear 2 tank tops because without it every little pooch and bulge and roll shows up and makes me feel self conscious

It seems like most womens shorts hit me at strange lengths because of how short i am or i run into the problem of fits around the waist I wear a 2 or 3 ... and is way to tight in the legs and butt like if i bend over they might bust open). Most petites i have found seem to be more a dressy style. And well juniors are WAYYYYY to short (sheesh who makes this stuff its short on me and i am a foot shorter than most people) maybe its just where i am bigger in the middle but most shorts tend to ride up in between the legs and i cants stand that!

I been reading alot of posts on here and I see everyone not recommending sundresses which is my usual out and about spring and summer attire even on vacation(but my concern does come in to play on what shoes would I wear if I do choose to wear a sundress (shoes that wouldn't look ridiculous anyways)I always just wear flip flops or some sort of strappy flat or a wedge (i have some keens bought them on recommendations of alot of ppl before we went to St Lucia last year! The right one killed my foot because my little toe stuck out on of the holes making it very uncomfortable!) (ill admit I do wear them around the yard and when hiking or what not but I wear them with socks which in turn keeps my toe in making them comfortable but... i wouldnt want to do sandals with socks in public I dont think LOL exp not with a dress!)

I live in Northeastern Tn which does get hot in the summer high 90's sometimes 100 with alot of humidity. I hear alot of ppl say that Florida heat and Humidity is just different. So i worry about being to hot and uncomfortable.

While I know I am not going to look my best I still want to look somewhat cute and put together for pictures and what not and most importantly I want to feel good and I want to be cool and comfortable

So my question is... What to wear?

Shorts & Tees & tanks? This brings up my I always layer concern I know 100% I will not want to wear tees or tanks with out layering but will i be miserable? ( i know in St Lucia I was so hot in tee shirts & tanks this way i was soaking wet! So i wore dresses the entire time & was much more comfortable!)

Do I wear the very casual capri's and solid tees i already have? They dont look very well put together i feel like i look sloppy but they are comfy. Will capri's be to hot?

Or do I wear the sundresses I have most of them are really light and breezy i have some maxi dresses (but only playing to wear those out to dinner a night or 2 at the fancier restaurants) most or about knee length or just below. I would be at a loss for a comfy shoe though that wouldn't look stupid. I also worry about being to clingy or see through if wet. And what are the odds of the wind blowing it up or me flashing people while on rides at WDW?

I would really appreciate the advice and if anyone has any suggestions on what to buy what to wear pictures anything it would be helpful!

I am not a shorts person so I normally wear capris while at the parks but I do say wear what you are comfortable in, you will see people in all kinds of clothes! I will say I do NOT see them riding up on rides a huge issue, you could always kinda tuck it under you legs!

By the way, hi neighbor, I live in middle TN!!!!

same thing with shoes. I dress for somfort (and laugh at the girls in heels).

sandals or flip flops aren't bad if it isn't a very long day. but I see nothing wrong with some canvas gyms (you know, plain white) with a sundress. who cares? you'll never see any of these people again!

I do like to find a pair of snadals with a back strap, for a lot of walking.. when I am wearing a dress. the strap makes it easier of the calf muscles.

We are here right now and it's around 80-84 degrees during the day. I have worn shorts, but do not like them for comfort or for pictures. I brought 2 skirts and that's what I prefer to wear, so have worn them a few times. I have capris, but have not really pulled them out. I wear my skirts with a pair of "walking" Taos sandals, which are cute but comfy. I like them better than sneakers because they are not hot. :)

Mine look a little bit like THIS, but in gold.

:) Ok I'll bite. I am quite a bit larger than you 5'4" and 226#. I have found in the last couple of years that my Sport Savvy dresses from QVC work well for me. They do not hug me, allow air to circulate and hit me just above my knee. I have no trouble getting on and off rides in them. I wear Clark sandals or sneakers with socks. They are a polo type collar dress so tennis shoes look OK for Disney, in my book. You have to remember that noone in WDW will remember you after you leave...so wear something cool and comfy for you and don't worry about other people.

It took everything in me to walk from the lounge chair into the pool at WDW last year...but each day it got easier. I purchased a cute bathing suite that covered me completely but still looked youthful (I am 43). So we all have our own issues with body image.

You will need to be comfortable and I promise after the first 10-15 minutes in the FL humidity you will not care what you are wearing as long as it is light and comfy. The heat down here ( I live in MS) is like breathing through wet gauze.

Some people wear crocs, I can't. I like my shorts from QVC- They are Denim & Company and they hit me perfect--mid thigh, not too short and not to long, elastic waistband, come in different colors, have pockets. They run big so I should have gotten a smaller size but they are comfy.

Just go and relax and have fun on your vacation.

I don't care for shorts either...I bought some of the "Whatever" skorts from Athleta (it's a company owned by Gap). They are VERY flattering (A line) and have shorts sewn into them. They look great with a cute t-shirt (or Disney T-shirt) or a nicer tank too.....They have some colors on sale now!

BTW..I am a bit taller than you...but probably a bit curvier too....so it should work great for you! I wear mine all the time during the summer in Texas (when not at work!).

I suggest Capris, Teva Sandals & T shirt (V Neck for comfort) :goodvibes. If you wear shorts or short dresses your lets stick to the attraction seats and they can be hot and uncomfortable.

Also, Teva sandals are great because they are comfortable, supportive and you can wear them on water rides and in the rain without worrying about them getting ruined.

Good luck on your trip!

I am rather large and I wear cotton button short sleeve shirts, cotton does not cling like T's do and I find them to be cooler. As far as pants I wear a very light weight pull on slack because I do not wear shorts, but a lightweight capri would do well. Shoes I always wear tennies with ankle socks to absorb the moisture from sweat. That is until the year I had a bone spur between toes and I bought a pair of crocs at Disney and they were super comfy. I find I need something supportive on my feet or I get horribly tired feet even with the prior to the trip walking to get in shape.

Hope I helped.

I would say to wear your sundresses. I wear them all of the time, and I think they are cooler than anything. Shorts don't really look good on anyone, so don't beat yourself up.

I am excited to try the whatever skort. That looks like something I could wear a lot!

Also, don't hesitate to wear comfy shoes. Just crop your feet out of your photos when you get home! lol, that's what I do! I am a pretty active person, but places like WDW really make my feet tired bc of the hard pavement. I have some sandals I will wear, but don't hesitate to wear sneakers. Actually, I think my feet do best when I wear a few different pairs of shoes in our trip.

bless your little heart!!!!!:grouphug:

I live in FL,just outside of Orlando, and believe me-it get's hotter than hot every yr.! I agree with everyone's advice.Just wear very comfortable shoes & clothes, wear sunscreen, bring a water bottle. If your staying on property, def. take advantage of extra magic hrs. in the morning. It's going to be a very hot summer for us this yr.It's already been in the high 80's!

I would also recommend Glide it is a roll on stick you can use on inner thighs keeps shorts from riding up and prevents chaffing on any body part. Also good if your shoes or sandals rub. It is sold at a store near me that sells running equipment.

I think I'd be too hot in capris that time of year. Personally I prefer shorts. I'm 5' 4", so taller than you, but I have short legs, and if shorts aren't the right length, they don't look very good on me. You could try a few different inseams and see if that makes any difference. I love J. Crew chino shorts, and the 5" look best on me. 7" & 9" inseams are too long on me, 3" inseam is too short on me. I think people with shorter legs look better in shorter shorts. All that said, you seem most comfortable in sundresses, and it sounds like you have a nice variety of them, so why not wear those? Wear what makes you happy. There is no reason to wear shorts if you don't like them that much and if you are just as cool in a sundress.

I find wearing sun dresses that come no lower than my knees with a pair of cropper leggings the most comfortable as they're light weight and the leggings make me feel a bit more covered up and prevent the dreaded inner thigh burn!

Me too or cute golf skorts :thumbsup2

I have worn sundresses at Disney, usually the day we arrive and only because I traveled in it. Worn them with Teva mush flipflops and they looked great. I wear shorts or skorts if it is hot and capris in the fall and early spring. Wear whatever is coolest for the time of year that you are going. You might want to vary your necklines too because you will end up with a tan line on your neck and arms. I agree with alternating your shoes. I take two pair of new Teva mush flipflops on our longer trips and alternate them. I will also take a pair of tennis shoes, but only wear them briefly because my feet get hot. Wear what makes you feel good and cool (if there is such a word in Floriday in June)!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will see everything from Burkas to hotpants with highheels!!!! Hope you have a blast and don't sweat the small stuff!!!

I'm most comfortable wearing flowing, knee-length skirts or dresses at Disney. I also used to wear skorts, but find that I prefer a longer length now that I'm a bit older :) Just make sure that your skirt/dress is loose enough so that you can tuck it under your legs when you are on rides like Soarin' or any of the coasters.

As far as shoes go, I wear a "lovely" pair of athletic sandals - they don't look all that great, but they work for my feet. My only suggestion would be that if you buy anything new, make sure you wear them for some long walks before you go, to make sure they're comfortable. Have a great time!

Hiya! I too have discovered skorts....they also have some cute ones at places like Lands End and LL Bean. Mine are stretchy, so they hold in the parts I want held in ;) and the shorts inside definitely protect you from chafing.

Thank you guys so much for the info and advice! And for not beating me up over complaining about my body! All the girls I work with give me a really hard time because I am trying to watch what i eat and talk about getting into better shape and they make fun of me for it (because in their words "i would love to have a body like that" what people dont realize is they ask my weight and think string bean) But when you are only 4ft 9in tall (i have an 8 year old daughter that is only about 7 inches shorter than I am! (she is a lil skinny minnie though she only weighs about 45lbs! 105 to 110lbs (which i have been) is extra weight on me (those extra 5 to 10 lbs is very visible on my body bc there is not much room to spread!(its like 10 to 15 for most women!) (they claim at 5ft tall the ideal weight is 100lbs)
OK ANYWAYS lol i am done venting!

I am not really worried so much about what everyone else thinks. I am worried about what I think. I want to look good and feel like i at least cute in the pictures! I am a firm believer in when you look good you feel good and I just want to wear something that is going to make me feel comfortable Inside & out!

I didn't even know you could get Skorts in adults sizes I buy skorts all the time for my daughter!

Im gonna look into those Teva mush flip flops or whatever you called them lol!

Definitely plan on getting into at least a little better shape plan on doing alot of walking to lead up to Disney.

I definitely am taking the advice and making sure i break in the shoes i have a pair of Nike's I have had for a couple years but in great shape and I am gonna buy a new pair of Asics walking shoes (on the recommendation of a one of my clients who is GM of a shoe store)

I think I am gonna try to find maybe some shorts and lightweight capri's or whatnot and also take some sundresses and such so that way i will have a variety of things to pick from based on what is most comfortable! we are driving so nothing is stopping me from over-packing except my husband nagging about how I always over-pack LOL

That looks like a cute skirt I might buy one to see how it works out... What color would you say would go better with about everything? Other than black?
