Ladies-have you had a Hysterosalpingogram? What was it like?

Well, I had the HSG and it wasn't too painful at all.

There was some cramping but it stopped as soon as the test was over.

The Dr. was very nice and let me watch the screen.

Both of my tubes are still open so the Essure procedure hasn't worked yet. It was a little shocking to hear her say "You can have another baby if you want to."

Thanks for all the info. It helped me know what to expect. lI'm sure I'll have to have another one in a few months.

I had one about 5 years ago and I recall questioning the Radiologist afterward about why in the world they didn't premedicate people for pain before it.

The pain doesn't last any longer than the procedure but it is certainly not painless.

Also there is the awkward aspect of having the speculum in so they can thread that catheter where it needs to go and then having to back up to the middle of the Radiology table with the **** thing still in so you can get your uterus under the X-Ray machine which hangs above the table.

Thank God I only had to have that once!
My hat's off to those of you ladies who did it 3 times - you're a better woman than me!

I had it a few years ago as well and I remember being very cold, uncomfortable and I remember the cramping as they injected the dye as being extreme. I had no blockages, but the dye really made me cramp. This was also about 15 years ago, so maybe the procedure has changed some.

I had two, many years ago. It takes maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. The procedure itself is somewhat uncomfortable but not real painful. I did have some cramping afterwards and took some advil. I have heard from others who have had it done that if there is a blockage in the tube, it can be painful from the pressure of the dye going in. It was interesting to see the x-rays as they were doing the procedure. I think the position you are in and the feeling of "everything flapping in the breeze" is more uncomfortable than the actual procedure. For my second time, I took some advil before the test and that helped alot with the cramping.
I've had a couple of them and this is a pretty good synopsis of the event.

Mine wasn't painful at all. Now, an endometrial biopsy? YOWZA!!

I had a couple of these procedures. My experience was that I experienced intense but short lived discomfort. I was perfectly capable of driving afterward. There were no blockages found, however. I don't know if that makes a difference.

I have to have one done somwtime this winter. How is the pain as compared to a colposcopy? I figured after the horror stories I heard about that (and it wasn't that bad), that I might be OK...

I had a HSG about 12 years ago. I remember it being a little painful, but tolerable during the procedure. I do remember the ride home from the hospital being in major pain, doubled over in the car with cramps. I don't remember what I took for the pain, but I definitely went home and went to bed.

Like someone else posted, I got pregnant the very next cycle also.

The pain afterward was not bad at all.

I've had a colposcopy and I think that hurt more.

I guess I'll be having another one in 3 months-I'm waiting for my Dr. to call with these results even though I already know.
