Ladies - Hats in the Parks?

Hats are a must for me on hot sunny days or I will get a migraine. I've bought 2 baseball hats and a pink, wide brimmed hat on our trips.

Same here. I learned this the hard way during on a very sunny day in Disneyland several years ago. I spent almost a whole day of my 4 day trip lying in the dark in the hotel room as a result. Now I never go without a hat at WDW except on very overcast days but I always carry one with me just in case the sun sneaks out.

I am not a hat person either, however I do have a WDW ball cap that I bring with me every trip so I can keep the sun off of my face plus I pull my hair through the hat sizer and make it into a pony tail, just so I can keep my hair off of my neck and shoulders. My girls (10 and 12) both wear hats at the parks too and do the same thing with their hair like I do with mine.

I always wear a hat outdoors in the summer (and a warm hat in the winter)... I'm not a "hat person" but I get heat stroke/sun stroke (I never remember which is the milder one, but the milder one!) very easily and ear ache in cold wind, so for the sake of my health, it's a must.

I have a nice purple baseball cap (a London 2012 Paralympics Gamesmaker one) but I may splurge on a Disney one when we get to WDW... but a hat will be a must for me.

Traveling to Disney in the spring/fall/winter, I would not wear a hat of any sort. When we have traveled in August, I wear a visor. The heat is brutal and the visor is a must to keep the sun off my face. I don't like hat's all that much, rarely wear them, but Disney in August requires one!

Skin cancer is a killer. I'd rather not risk it for the sake of my hair looking slightly better. I wear a hat on sunny days always, at Disney or not, and sunscreen every single day of the year without exception.

As a bonus consequence, my hair might not look quite as good on sunny days, but I'm getting pretty close to 40 and still without a single wrinkle.

Smart Smart Smart. I was diagnosed with skin cancer at 33 yrs old. Brown hair, dark brown eyes and olive skin tone. Can happen to anyone. So now I always where a sun proof large brim hat and lots of sunscreen. Always better safe then sorry.

I don't but my daughter often does. I do use sunscreen liberally just to be on the safe side even though I rarely burn.

Now my husband... he always wears sunscreen and a hat. But he's bald, burns in the shade and has a family history of skin cancer. So we protect his head.

I thought I was going to be OK...but was feeling miserable and crabby at AK. Rafiki's Planet Watch is a great spot if you get stuck :)

Good to know! With all of the ambient noise and music, WDW becomes a nightmare when you have a migraine. Ha.

Hats give me a headache...however they're GREAT for covering bad hair/wet hair etc and of course for protecting your face from the sun.

I'm a hair tie, headband, sunglasses and sunscreen type person.
I don't do hats

Ok, no guarantees that I can post it (I've never posted a pic before and am easily confused lol)

As a rule, no, I don't wear hats in the parks, however when it's super sunny and hot, my very long, thick, dark hair will REALLY compound the heat. On those days, I will wear a hat (not that I have one with me, I always end up buying one). This was a few years back in Animal Kingdom.

Crud...didn't work. Time to figure out plan b on this one ;)

I always wear a hat to protect my face and hair from the sun. My hair color fades when I am in direct sunlight. What starts off as a light reddish auburn will tuen blond after too much time in the sun.

I wasn't a hat person, always felt to hot on my head, until my husband bought me a sun hat. Its white and made of that moisture wicking fabric that keeps you cool. It also has a mesh venting all around the crown. I love this hat. I've worn it all over the United States. It gives me shade.

i wear a hat at WdW when we go at a hotter time of year. I have picked up some cute baseball cap styles there. My latest one has little tiny skull beads on it- I bought it at the POTC shop.

I do wear a hat. I try to wear something comfortable that's light and not too heavy. A baseball cap if nothing else.

The sun can be beating down on you all day and a hat just helps me with my own personal shade.:thumbsup2

I normally don't do hats, but for amusement parks I have a couple of light colored baseball hats (to reflect the heat) to shade my eyes in addition to my sunglasses - plus a couple days of Disney's water and humidity make my hair a fuzzball and shoving it under a hat doesn't make it any worse!

I am also not a hat person I just put really good sunscreen on and sunglasses. The only one time I had to wear a hat and that is because I had some sort of allergic reaction and my eyelids got bumps. I had to go to the nurse in the MK and they said I should wear a hat because they couldn't put anything near my eyes to help relieve them. You should be fine just make sure you reapply than sunscreen every three hours.

I always wear a hat in the parks. Always wear a baseball cap usually one of my racing caps.

For me it has nothing to do with heat (I'll wear baseball caps during winter) or shading my eyes. It has to do with my skin. Skin cancer runs in the family and my Mom had it on the top of her head a few years back. So yeah hair does not protect your skin entirely from that kind of thing. You can and will get cancer on top of your head if you have fair skin and are prone to that type of stuff.

Piece of advice for anyone in hot weather. When the weather is really hot and if your wearing a cap or something like that go and wet it. And then put it back on. It helps a ton in the weather. I'm used to running in all sorts of weather so dumping water on my head while the cap is on (don't usually have time to take it off) with a cup is a fairly routine procedure for me. It helps a ton to cool down.
