I went to a local fabric shop and got clearance material marked down from $30 a yard to 4.99!!
I redid 6 chairs, 2 arm and 4 side, dining chairs and it was a breeze. Have done it two other times as well........other chairs........Get yourself a good staple gun at home depot. be sure to buy staples For upholstery, they are longer...and they are always available, so its easy to find.
Remove your chair cushion, revers your fabric (if using a material with lines you will need to be more careful to line things up).
Lay out batting and cut ahead of time.
Batting goes down, lay fabric and start stapling. I choose to do one staple on each side first, in the center then do corners by gathering material from center, almost like an inverted pleat and then staple it down, you can cut excess material as you go. Then do opposite corner. Then fill in between those other four center staples around edges. be sure to leave spaces for screws/bolts etc wherever those are.
It really is easy and satisfying when you do it. Literally can be done in a hour or two if you take your time.........Good Luck..
And get shopping for some reduced fabric, try Ebay too, just be sure that IF you are getting seconds (which I have not done) that you have enough usable for your chairs!
Let us know how you do.
