Ladies... Do You Wash Your Hair Every Day?

I've never been able to get away with not washing my hair daily, but all of a sudden, over the past year, I can get away with DAYS between washings!

I'm just shy of 28, so I'm nowhere near menopause (I hope!) and years past puberty (thank goodness!), so I doubt I can blame hormones...

So, how about you?

I'm 41 and I have to wash EVERY day. My hairdresser encouraged me to try going to every other day because she says that your scalp "adjusts" and doesn't get as oily. Umm... sorry! I'm sure that would work but I just can't stand it in the meantime. My hair is dryer than it used to be when I was younger, but still a no-go on being able to skip a day. :headache:

I have curly hair, if I straighten it o never wash it the following day unless I gave too... I love day 2 hair!! It always looks better than the first day and gives my hair a break from all the blistering and irons!! I say skip washing it at least once a week!!!

Have you ever tried a dry shampoo? It is a spray that helps tone down the oil. I am a hairdresser and I agree with yours!
Your scalp will generate natural oils that help keep your hair healthy.

I wish I didn't have too. But my hair would look so oily if I didn't. Plus my hair is flat. So it wouldn't look clean.

ugh! I have tried to go two days, but it's just a greasy mess if I don't wash daily. (& I'm past menopause, so I'm OLD!)

When I was younger I did indeed need to wash my hair every day.

Now? Twice a week TOPS! As I aged, the oiliness of my hair has diminished. In addition, the every-6-weeks coloring I do plus twice a week flat-iron means the less I wash, the less drying damage I can do.

I use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and I have nice shine and feel to my very-processed hair.

My hair gets dry and breaks if I wash it every day. Also, too much shampoo makes my scalp flake (and I use Head & Shoulders!). My hair always looks best on the second day, and it is still pretty good on the third day. I like to bathe every day, but I take care not to get my hair wet.

Every 2 to 4 days works for me, depending on the humidity outside. (Less washing in the winter, more in the summer.)

I judge when it needs washing based on how it feels. I have very thick, wavy hair.

I think it's different for everyone! I don't think it's changed as I've aged, either... I think I've just learned how to deal with it better. My mother (very fine, light hair) used to make me wash my hair every day. :p

Oh... and my daughter's hair is like mine! Straighter, but just as thick, if not thicker. She washes her hair every other day. My son's is... well, it's pretty much a fluffy Afro (a Franco-fro, actually). He'd never wash it, if I didn't make him. Three-four days it never looks any different. I aim to make him wash it every other day, but sometimes he manages to slip by me.

What do you recommend? Is there anything I can try out at Target or do I have to go to my salon & buy something?

Do you have a Sephora in your area? Try Oscar Biandi dry shampoo (the spray works better than the sprinkle on kind). Definitely pulls the oils out and is good for in-between shampoos. I haven't seen any dry shampoos at my target. You can check Sephora online as well.

I have dry hair and usually can get by with twice a week but with working out most days I have to shampoo more often than that. The dry shampoo helps if I don't have time to do the full thing, and if I pull my hair back it still looks polished and clean.

Whew! Glad I am not the only one! I can get away with a "day three", and since I am predicting feeling lazy tomorrow, I decided to give it a go! I "feels" dirty not to wash it, but I swear, it looks just-washed clean and still smells fresh! :rotfl:

No. Every 2 days for me. My scalp gets too dry if I wash it every day.

I wash mine every three days, usually. If I wash it on a Monday, I will wash it on Thursday or Friday if it doesn't look too bad. I'm pretty lucky that I don't need to wash it very often. But, my hair is always super dry.

I wash mine every 2-3 days. It's very thick and I'm lucky that it doesn't get oily very quickly. I use a shampoo and conditioner specifically for brunettes, and then once a week I use a clarifying shampoo. If I blow-dry my hair I use the Redkin satin wear blow dry lotion to protect it from the heat. And the Chi 44 iron guard if I use the curling iron or flat iron. I still have split ends, but that's mostly due to the fact that I'm over-due for a trim.

I use a unite product which is not sold in stores. I did see a commercial for a store brand recently, although I don't remember which one. I personally would not purchase salon products from a regular store as you never know if you are getting the true product and prices are generally the same as salon if not higher. (I wish I could recall the store brand on tv commercial) if I see it I will keep you posted.

When I was a teenager, I would go a couple of days without washing my hair. We didn't have a shower, just a tub, so I had to wash it in the kitchen sink. Looking back, I probably should have washed my hair more often than I did but I wore it mostly in a ponytail or pig tails so it really didn't matter much.

Once I got married and began taking showers instead of tub baths, I wash my hair every day. If I don't, I can smell the oil in my hair by noon of the next day. Plus, since I wear it short, it ends up standing up in weird sections after sleeping on it all night. I've tried watering it down but that doesn't work. I don't feel clean if I don't wash my hair every morning.

...no, I don't wash mine every day - it'd take too long to dry it....THANK GOD FOR SCRUNCHIES!
