Ladies, do you sport a "muffin top?"

Ugh no, looks awful! I wouldn't dream of showing my middle area flab! My shirts are always long enough to cover anything that would look like that! There are plenty of cute little tops that are just long enough to cover the flab - no tent required. ;)

With all the muffin tops and whale tails, I'm glad that I'm nearsighted. :cool1:

And, for the record, I have a muffin top. Only on guys it's called Dunlop's Disease. My belly dun lops over my belt. I suppose that may be due in part to the fact that my waist size is 40", but I can wear a 38 Low.

Can anyone say TMI???

Ok I actually LOLed on that one! I even told my dh and he laughed :)

I would have a muffin top if I wore something like that. BUT I dont wear anything like that, WHY do women wear stuff like that??? Dont they enjoy breathing? I thought torturing our bodies went out in the 1800's with the bone undergarments

Think about where this anger and vengefulness comes from. For most people (including myself--I'm not perfect either in this arena, but I am trying to change), it stems from my own deep-seeded self-confidence issues.

For me, it has nothing to do with anger and vengefulness or lack of self-confidence. It's simply an observation, the same way I look at an outfit and determine if I like it or dislike it. It doesn't affect me how people choose to dress, it's their business. Let's be honest, we all make private judgements, and sometimes not so private, about complete strangers. Sometimes an observation is just that and nothing more.

I am almost 56, and i wear low- rise jeans, and yes sometimes, muffin tops, maybe there is something wrong w/ me. I have never dressed my age, and Ain't Going To!!!!!!! LOL :rotfl2:

Does anyone else find it somewhat depressing when women can't help but degrade other women? What exactly do you chatty cathy's feel that you're accomplishing by calling the fashion choices other women make "disgusting?"

I suppose I could say similar things about parenting choices, marriage choice, career choices etc, but as a woman, teacher and future parent, I can only try to encourage all women to stop being so gosh darned <word thay rhymes with witchy>.

Just stop. Think about where this anger and vengefulness comes from. For most people (including myself--I'm not perfect either in this arena, but I am trying to change), it stems from my own deep-seeded self-confidence issues.

So instead of making fun of some girl, or calling her names, why don't you try figuring out what about yourself makes you so angry, and change that?

I spend far too much of my day seeing eye-rolling from teenage girls about their classmates etc...I'm not sure I can take too much more of it on the Dis!
<getting off of soapbox now>
I'm sorry, I'm a 29 year old size 2 who is in above average shape. Yes, seeing fat rolling over sides of jeans is disgusting.

It isn't me being witchy ;) at all!!!! It is just as disgusting to watch that as it is to see old men with guts hanging over their speedos so far that you don't see a snit of the front!

Sorry, it is disgusting!!!!!!!!

Now if you want to wear the correct size jeans/pants and let the skin show, go for it! I'm totally fine with that! But for God's sake, don't sausage yourself to the point that it really is not attractive. Don't fool yourself into thinking clothes fit when they don't! I was a size 16 not 2 years ago, and TRUST ME, I didn't fool myself into thinking a 12 would fit... at least not until I was really a size 12.

Show all the skin you want. I've seen plus sized women in bikinis w/o being disgusted.

The difference is, the bikini's fit. Clothing that doesn't and allow for rolls of skin, isn't sexy. It is disgusting.

Again, if you want to show skin, so be it!! Show it and be proud, just wear the right dang size!!!! I wear very low rise jeans, and even at a 14 when I wore them and maybe showed skin, I was so not a muffin top. Just because you show skin, doesn't mean you automatically are a muffin top. When the fat rolls over the side, you are one and that's when I get disgusted.

Call me "witchy" if you want... I'll just say that I have good taste in clothing, and the rest of y'all don't ;)

I am a plus size girl and I have a muffin top and don't wear tight jeans. It is just the way my body is. I can stick my hands down the back of my jeans and my husband says my pants are too big. I hate it I call it my spare tire.I do not show skin either. You try to hide it ,it will look bigger so don't be so hard on people.....It is like if I eat out and people look at you and think you shouldn't be eating that. How do you know if that was my treat for losing some pounds. You get to eat it and no one wants to take it from you. I am just saying don't judge and call us ugly......

EEWWW!!! No way. I know I have rolls and I work very hard to keep them covered.

Thing is some girls wear the super low cut pants and even though they are tiny it makes them look like they have a roll too.

All muffin tops are, are girls who cannot wear the right sized pants. If they are a size 10 they wear an 8 or a 6. They squeeze their body into something that is not meant for them and it looks terrible!!!!! It actually makes their bodies look worse than they are.

I have a muffin top and I wear the correct size pants. In fact, I could be naked and I'd still have a muffin top - it's just how the weight distributed itself after my pregnancy. Granted, I cover it up with a decent length shirt - but it's still there no matter what. And if I pick up my son and the edge of my shirt catches and pulls up and everyone sees my muffin top - so what? You should be more disgusted by the stretch marks. ;)

I am sometimes guilty of that

I also think there are worse things that can be seen on the street...

Just for the record, so y'all really do not think I am getting on fat people.

My definition of a muffin top...
One who's fat "rolls out" over the jeans AND then wears a belly shirt to show skin. It isn't a little bit of flab that occurs when wearing regular waisted pants and a regular shirt.

Even small people get little flabs of skin sometimes, but I don't care if it is "hidden" Trust me, I am sure some of you are perfectly normal with how you dress.

I will say though, as one who gets the gap in the back and pushing in on the front to show some of my flab (yes small sizes get it too ;)) try different brands of pants. I found with my big old rear end, the straighter fitting clothing does that a ton. Gaps in the back and gives me flab in the front. Drives me insane. Also I found lower waisted pants seem to eliminate that issue. I've had the same problem with that as a 16 as I do now as a 2.

Oh and don't talk about stretch marks with me... I have more than I care to admit :p ;)

I think a few people are getting a little confused. Nobody's talking about how disgusting fat people are. I'm a size 20, that means I have some padding that hangs out above my waistband. That's very different from a muffin top.
My 15 year old, 94 pound daughter who is a size 2 gets the muffin going when she's wearing a size 0. I think it's nasty on her. It looks trashy. Period. No matter who's wearing it or what size they are. It's the same kind of trashy that happens when someone wears a bra that's way too small. Just yuck.

Low rise jeans are still much more flattering, than mom-jeans.
I have to disagree with you here.

The muffin top thing is bad, but those low rise jeans also make people's behinds look bigger. You are cutting your body off at its widest part!! Unless you are Nicole Ritchie, who is straight up and down, your butt looks big.

And by "your", I don't mean you specifically.

I'll disagree that actually. The only thing low waisted jeans do is make some people look shorter. It all depends on the rise.

Honestly "mom jeans" adds height to the butt, making it look WAY bigger than it really is!!!!

As a shorty (5'ish) low waisted jeans paired with high heels and hip length shirts actually makes me look taller and more slender.

Mom jeans with tucked in shirts makes you look shorter and fatter.

I'm definitely not as straight as Nicole Ritchie, and my husband agrees... mom jeans are OUT and look awful!

Now I'm about to make myself look really fat and put on too big old mom jean cut offs so I can paint :p

Thats not true. As a previous poster mentioned - just about everyone needs to buy low-rise jeans in a size larger than normal.

Oh, I agree with you about low rise jeans. I wear them also. But to wear low rise jeans and not have a flat stomach and wear short tops is just *wrong*. Other people don't want to budges and rolls. Cover the belly if you aren't thin!

What is the old saying? Midriff-baring shirts are a privilege, not a right.

Low rise jeans look good on two types of people: 12 year olds, and celebrities who have all day and night to sculpt their Goddess like bodies.

99% of the women who have thrown away their Mom jeans in favor of low rise jeans should really go through the dumpster and find those Mom jeans again because they are a lot more flattering. Since low riders hit the body at most woman's fattest part, right above the butt, its pretty likely you're gonna have a muffin top no matter who you are.

I soooo disagree. I have a very ample bottom, which stinks because I have such a small waist and small rest of me (minus my thighs, which match my butt). Low rise pants are my best friend. My butt has never looked better in a pair of jeans or pants. And no, I don't have a muffin top even though I am not 12 nor do I work out like a celebrity (but yes I do work out and watch my weight).

Sounds like we have a similar body shape. I also have a "good sized" backside and thighs to match. I also don't sport a muffin top. If I do, I go up a size ;)

I think that's what people are not getting. A lot of times, low rise jeans cause you to go up a size. They fit the best and really are *THE* most flattering on all body types.

If I were brave, I'd show you a pic of my rear in my yucky mom shorts I have on now as well as my low rise jeans.

None of you here would ever think that the mom jeans really do look best. I'd dare you all to go up a size if need be in the low rise and look in the mirror... you really might be suprised!

I wish they'd make jeans that really fit me right, but I can't find them. I have pretty straight hips and a not so skinny waist- when I buy jeans that fit my hips I get some waist spillage, but when I buy jeans that fit my waist properly they're baggie around my butt and look ridiculous. I do like the "boyfriend" cut but I can't find any that aren't "distressed" to the point of having holes in them- fine for hanging out but not for lunch with friends or even visiting my mom for that matter :rotfl: .

So I make do with the jeans that fit my butt and make sure I have shirt long enough to avoid anyone seeing my muffin.
