Ladies, do you mind if someone calls you a pet name?

I dont mean in a nasty way but if someone calls you "sweetheart" or " honey" in a nice way, do you mind?

If its an older person who means no harm, it doesnt bother me at all. Or someone I care about.

I live in the South, I'm used to it =) Esp in small towns, when we pass through them and stop for a meal or gas =)

Doesn't bother me at all, unless it's some creepy old man, you know?

I've even been known to do it myself sometimes, esp at work... *yikes!*

I don't like other men or women my age or younger calling me pet names, unless it's my boyfriend. I don't mind elderly people doing it at all.

Honestly no, not at all.

Of course when I'm called ANY kind of name I always consider the source and whether the person doing the calling knows me or not.

The only one I don't like is "honey." Seems the guys have always picked that one even if I try to change them! LOL! Sweetheart, darling, or dear is fine.

for me it depends on who and where...if we are in a bar and some guy i don't know comes up and call me sweetie or sugar or some other pet name it bothers me but if we were in a different atmosphere it wouldn't bother me as i am usually pretty easy going.

I don't really like it any time, I find it somewhat demeaning nomatter where it comes from. But I'm not one to ever call anyone pet names either.

Me too. I'm from Louisiana, and just about everyone calls each other pet names: ba' (short for babe/baby--said "bay"; Ex. "Hey, ba' how've you been?"), sweetheart, darlin', sweetie. These are the most popular. When I was teaching, I would call the kids "sweetie" or "cutie" or "sweetheart" usually-- they're just innocent terms of endearment where I'm from. And noone that I've encountered seems to mind this.

My DH and I usually call each other "Boo", "Cutie", or "Cue"--short for Cutie.

My little brother and sister call me "Rook" (oo as in BOO)--long story.

I am with Jolie, if it is in a nice way...then ok. But if it is like Pam says and it is just some drunk guy..then I usually say something.

But generally, I dont mind at all.

Heck, no, I don't mind at all. I've heard it for my whole life and it's usually just people's way of being nice, in my opinion.

DH always calls me sweet pea, sweetheart, or honey. If he actually says my name, I know to straighten up and pay attention because something is dangerous--as in, "Amy, mind that car!"

Well, if I'm perfectly (DIS)honest, I do get annoyed when someone expects me to come when they call me (on the) Spot.


I used to live farther north than I currently reside, and being called "honey" by perfect strangers was a familiarity that took some getting used to.

Aside from such cultural practices as above that I accept as such, I'll admit being uncomfortable with people taking such familiar liberties in addressing me without permission unless it's my spouse or a close relative.

If it goes with the person's personality, I don't mind at all.
Some people just ooze with pet names. The same goes with people touching me. There is a personality that you know they mean no harm.
There are other people that just can't pull this off. I guess it's a feeling I get about the person whether I accept or am offended.

not necessariily, but again, it really depends on who it is. If it's some sleaze then yeah I take offence, but if it's a nice old guy at the shops then no.

If i know the person really really well and know they mean no harm then it doesn't bother me.
My boyfriend does and i dont even flinch.
If i don't know them or they are just saying it because they are older....I don't like it.

I work in a predominatly male environment dealing with trucking companies. A lot of the men will call be 'babe', 'honey', 'girl', or something. I don't particularly like it in a business setting but I don't say anything.

One time I was at a business lunch with about 8 men ( I was the only female). Some of the men from our company were VP's, directors, managers, etc. The waiter took my order then said thanks sweetheart. I didn't say anything but it really ticked me off. It made me feel inferior to everyone else.
