Ladies, do you mind if someone calls you a pet name?

I don't mind at all, I'm usually called sweety by customers at work.
I use the pet names too. It just comes out, I don't mean to offend anyone.

I dont mean in a nasty way but if someone calls you "sweetheart" or " honey" in a nice way, do you mind?

If its an older person who means no harm, it doesnt bother me at all. Or someone I care about.

Does it bother you?

If it's someone who is older than me, or someone trying to comfort me in some way, than no. If it's a guy my own age or if when they say it it SOUNDS snippy, then yes.

About the only time it happens to me is at work. I'm a waitress and occasionally I'll get a customer who calls me "honey", "sweetie", "sugar", etc. and it does bother me. We have our name tags right on the table, so it's not like the customer can't look at that, see my name and call me that. I don't say anything though, I just smile and grit my teeth. :teeth:

I call everyone "honey" and I mean no disrespect at all. There used to be one woman who worked with us that everyone hated and she called everyone "honey" but it was very condescending. I mean no harm :)

I guess I would be in the minority. I hate being called a pet name. Having grown up with one my whole life, I can't stand it anymore.

Especially when I'm in a restaurant, and waitresses call me honey, sweetie, etc. AAAARRRGGGHHHH! I am not your honey! You are not a bee! You did not make me in your hive!!!!:teeth:  :teeth:

My mom, dad, and anyone over 60 can call me any sugary name they like and that's fine. My SO uses a specific name that I don't mind. Anyone else better use my given name. I was less uptight about it when I lived in the south and still am when I travel in the south, but where I'm from, if a stranger calls me honey, all my hair stands on end.

If it's meant in a condescending way, then I handle it by just counteracting. Men HATE that! :p For instance, a guy at work

Him - "Sheila, honey, don't you think that blah blah lah...."

Me - "Well, actually, MUFFIN, I disagree."

:teeth:

Not really, but it would depend on the situation and context that the name was being used.

I don't love it but I do not make a big issue out of it either. My fiance' calls me princess all the time and I think it is cute. He even bought me a little princess crown pillow. I really only like it when he or my family and friends use those slangs with me but like I said I am not going to throw a fit.

Honestly, no, as long as it's done respectfully/affectionately.

I must have a "Honey" face.

When I worked at the courthouse, I was always called that by people older than me. Often, they said I reminded them of their daughter or granddaughter.

The biggest adjustment was being pregnant (twice!) while working as a district attorney. Besides being called "Honey", the words "public servant" took on new meaning!

Total strangers would touch my expanding stomach as I rode the elevator! Luckily, I had relatively easy pregnancies and I knew that the "touchers" genuinely meant well, so it wasn't an issue for me.

Yep, I mind. Usually strangers are the ones that call me pet names (usually women:confused: ). If you don't know my name or can't remember it, I'm not offended if you call me "hey you."

As long as it is said in a nice manner I am totally fine with it (drunken idiots are another story though ;)) I have friends from all over and males and females alike seem to use hon, honey & sweetie often :)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I am going to say this next time someone calls me honey!

It bothers me unless they are older, then I find it comforting, too.

I used to be a service advisor (the person who checks your car in, gets authorization for repairs from the customer, takes all the heat--the go between for the customer and the technician) and all those guys used to call me honey, sweetheart, darlin', etc. I never took offense--they were terms of endearment. And, hey, if they ticked me off--I could starve these guys quite effectively.

So, I rarely get offended if a mechanic calls me by a pet name. In my experience, they are not trying to call me stupid--they are trying to establish a connection. In dealerships, they do have training to try to stop this practice but you'll still see it in smaller shops.

Now, I've had customers that think I couldn't possibly know anything because I'm a woman--but never mechanics! Mechanics always figured even if I didn't understand something, they could explain it to me.
