I need to do something about DD15's "mustache". We attempted to bleach it with some stuff I bought at CVS, but she said it burned so I made her wash it off.

What's the best way to deal with this problem??

Bleach, wax?? I am inexperienced at this... I'm light haired and fair.

I was trying to fix it BEFORE someone embarrassed her and someone finally did. My mother!!

I suggest using a hair removal product like Nair - there are formulas intended for use on the face. I bought one that comes in a little tube, with an applicator right on the end, so your just sqeeze the tube a bit and apply it to the upper lip - very easy and not messy at all. Leave it on for the amount of time in the instructions, and wipe off - it's that easy (yes, I'm a brunette!)

Or, if she can deal with the brief pain, many hair salons also provide facial waxing - I know my hairdresser will do it.

I think waxing would probably be your best bet. You can either do it yourself or go to a salon. There's tones of people out there who wax their upper lip so she's definitely not alone.

I hate to break to you but she will need to either shave it almost daily or get it waxed, like 2X's a month. Get a man's electric shaver. I would say you can wax it yourself but I wouldn't. Too easy for a burn. (yes I burned myself, badly) I do mine at home but take dd to the salon & she shaves inbetween.
Do you get your hair done at a Salon that does waxing?

I am trying to talk my 13yodd into laser removal but she won't go for it. Me first...:o

I would take her to a nice salon and have it waxed. It may be a bit painfull and red after , but that should be gone quickly. Like take her on a Saturday morning and by school time monday she should be fine, actualy before Saturday night. Of course you will have to repeat it every so often, but it's the price we pay to be unembarassedly beautiful. I get my brows waxed every now and again, and don't find it painful at all.

We took our DD age 13 to a dermatologist, who did 3 laser treatments for permanent removal. Jennifer said that it stung "just a little", and she did fine.

I've forgotten how much it cost. Maybe $125 for the whole thing?

Reminds me of a joke I heard from Last Comic Standing. "I grew up in an Italian family. My mother taught me how to shave . . ."

I like Sally Hansen's face hair remover. It's so easy it's almost a crime. Comes in a tube. You just put it on, wait the alloted time (actually try wiping a little off a little earlier the first time) - and wipe it off with a washcloth and warm water. And hair's all gone!

Waxing is also a good choice. It's usually done pretty reasonably at any hair or nail salon. It will last longer than the Sally Hansen cream.

Tell her not to worry, it's an easy fix - and there are alot of out there that have this problem.:D

Sorry, don't know anything about facial waxing...facials, OTOH, yes ::yes::

Maybe I will try that Sally Hansen for her & I. I doubt it work on us but it is worth a shot.
I hate being hairy!

laser does work. Stings like a rubber band snapping and takes several treatments depending on the courseness and darkness of the hair in contrast to your skin. Can be a bit expensive for each treatment, but not being embarrassed is worth the money.

one month.....and one month between treatments...no waxing between treatments either. Clip the hair close to the skin with scissors.

Thanks for all the input!! She has had her eyebrows waxed so the pain shouldn't be an issue. Though I think maybe we'll start with the Sally Hansen stuff.

THANKS!!!

I have the dark upper lip hair also. Waxing is the way to go. I tried Nair and it did not work well for me. You could still see the hair and I did not like that.

I am looking into laser hair removal also. :)

SHAVE??!! Her face? I don't think that would be a good idea. I would take her to a salon to get it waxed.

I do take her to get it waxed. However we are HAIRY and I would have to take her to the salon once a week. She does use that hair trimmer thing but let me tell you a man's shaver is better.

We REALLY REALLY need to do that laser treatment.

oye - shaving it? (shudders) - bad enough I gotta shave my legs!!

I use the Sally Hansen facial stuff - usually the remover (but they make a bleach too)

yes - my face is a little 'red' afterwards...but i do it at night, so I'm nice and smooth/depuffed in the morning. I do this maybe once every other week.

I can't believe the amount of 13 year olds that get their eyebrows waxed and other salon services done...man - my mom NEVER did that kind of stuff for me.

I am blond, but I don't like the idea of hair at all so I have it waxed too. I used to use a bleach, and DH just laughed and laughed at me. He couldn't believe I did stuff like that.

The Nair facial stuff doesn't always work and can also cause breakouts. They look even worse than the hair.

This is such a common problem, but I gotta say my mother better not embarrass any possible future DDs I may have by making comments like that, or I'll really let her have it.

DD and myself uses the Salley Hansen brush on stuff. Works good. Let me suggest that you follow it with some aloe cream. It will sooth the irritation. :)
