Ladies, are you EVER going to leave?? 10 days of Food & Wine fun! *NEW 1/29 PG 34*

I knew I wanted some time to shop around Downtown Disney and tonight seemed as good a night as any.

Entering via the West Side… sure hope the Marketplace bus stops are open in Dec and can’t wait to see how they have “refurbed” the bus stops. :confused3

Has anyone tried T-Rex yet?

I adore shopping in World of Disney. I believe I found quite a few goodies in here tonight including a shadowbox and a special picture frame I had shipped home. Of course I have yet to get any pictures printed to put in it or put together the shadow box. Maybe by the end of the TR I will have done that.

I had been trying to check out the new Tren-D store. I loved it! So many interesting things to see and unusual merchandise that you don’t see in every store.

For LL on my way out… can you see the hand detail?

DSC01725.jpg

So I’d done pretty well in terms of shopping. Quite a few goodies at World of Disney and a few more at Tren-D. It was time for a reward. The very best margarita on WDW property.

DSC01726.jpg

And this is where I encountered the inventor.

Before the story, first the view

DSC01727.jpg

DSC01730.jpg

And by the time I left it looked like this:

DSC01732.jpg

But in between there was a story. Quite a story.

cont'd in the next post

My favorite margarita stand in all of WDW still mixes the best margarita ever. :thumbsup2 It wasn’t too busy. Plenty of empty tables. There were two guys at one table – locals, I’d later come to find out. And a couple at another table – newlyweds, I’d soon overhear. For the most part I was trying to amuse myself. I think I made a few calls, sent a few texts and just tried to soak in the atmosphere.

But the conversation at the adjacent table was too much to resist/ignore. One of the two local guys was just completely full of himself. He had the answer to everything. Best places to hang out, secret to relationships (why was he with a buddy and not a girl??), and clearly he was an entrepreneur with whom to be reckoned. He explained how one had to be very careful and one time he disclosed an idea on an airplane only to have his multi-million dollar idea stolen. He then proceeded to describe his next big idea. This is going to sound crazy but he was completely serious when describing it. Dr. Something’s (he used a last name, I just forget what it was) underarm pad. He explained to the couple how when he went to formal occasions he stuffed a feminine pad under each of his arms to absorb the sweat. He thought that clearly he couldn’t be the only one and wouldn’t there be a market for underarm pads.

His buddy was relatively quiet and the couple seemed to neither encourage nor discourage him. I was kind of horrified. He went on for quite some time about the idea and how he’d have to test it and how it could bring him a fortune. I kept trying to discern whether he was serious or whether we were all being punked and I really think he was “serious.” Frightening, isn’t it? Let’s just hope that’s a product we never have to see on the shelves. :scared:

Now, before I make the crazy inventor out to be a complete jerk, he did do one nice thing in albeit a very clumsy manner. Apparently he had a bracelet that matched some piece of jewelry one of the couple was wearing. The new groom admired it. Before they left, the mad scientist gave it to the groom. Of course he did it by challenging him, “do you want it?” “well, do you?” “ are you a wimp (he did not use the word wimp – he used another word I’m not very fond of)?” “are you?” And finally the groom took the bracelet and the inventor left. And peace was returned to the margarita stand.

Still not quite believing what I had witnessed, I continued shopping.

I headed into Art of Disney… so many cool things to see in here!! And SO many things I’d love to have. I fantasize about re-doing my basement and putting these posters up.

At this point I was hungry and headed toward my fave, Earl of Sandwich. Before that, a brief tour through the kitchen store (I want so many things in here!!)

A book I’d like to try:

DSC01744.jpg

I love this Tigger mug and the old school Walt/Main St mug!

OK. Me hungry now! Went for the classic. Best BLT in the world.

Ooohhhh...I hope you are working on that next post now! That is quite a cliffhanger!!

And I hope you also post all your souveniers and purchases at the end of your report!;)

I am just heading out for some Christmas activities with the kiddos, but I look forward to hopefully reading about the rest of your DTD adventures tonite!;)

I headed home from Downtown Disney and wasn’t tired yet. And my “private” entrance makes dashing in for Illuminations too easy to resist!

I took to watching Illuminations from France (wonder if the proximity to the champagne stand could have anything to do with that?) But there were generally few people there and a handy little ledge to rest my drink on. :rolleyes1

There's just something about this restaurant at night. The way the light glows or something. It just looks so warm and romantic and inviting-- especially at night. Someday I'd like to try a late night ADR here - maybe try to emerge after park close!

Thanks for reading! :upsidedow

It'll be waiting for you when you get home! Have fun with your Christmas activities!! :santa:

That BLT at Earl of Sandwich is officially on my must try list.....
It looks so good!

Just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that this is a big week for Disney TV specials if you want to get a dose of Disney!

Tonight at 8pm on HGTV is a new decorating Disney for the holidays special.

Next Saturday at 9pm on Food Network is a new Guy Fieri Disney holiday special.

And during the week there are repeats of some oldies but goodies. History Channel is repeating the 2 hour Magic Kingdom Modern Marvels episode and Travel Channel is repeating the Samantha Brown Disney holiday and Disney favorites episodes.

:santa::santa::santa: ENJOY!!! :santa::santa::santa:

I love the hand light fixture. That is too neat. I am going to have to try to pop into Tren-D to look at everything!

That guy with his invention is just too funny. I wonder if he'll be appearing on Shark Tank on ABC. :rotfl2: Some of the inventions people want to do are crazy, one guy came onto the show actually wanting to implant a blue tooth headset into peoples ears! Then he had this head phone type gadget with a long metal spike that went into your ear to charge it. :scared1:

You know, that is a really good idea with a late night Les Chefs ADR...wonder if I could talk Jen into that for January. She's going to kill me if I try changing more things. :rolleyes1

I am so excited about tonight's episode!! WOO HOO! We are switching to FIOS this week though so I can't set my DVR for the others. You are going to have to help remind me. :rotfl2:

What great updates C!! I loved walking through EPCOT with you!!! And you are right those braised ribs were amazing I could have eaten two more of them if I hadn't already been so full from all my other snacking!!!!!

Your illuminations shots are awesome and I can't wait for later in the week when you would share that spot with us!!!! It was a very nice place to watch Illuminations from!!!

Ok ...that guy was just a bit on the weird side....ummm I think that is all I'm going to say about that LOL!!!

OOOH...thanks for the heads up on the Disney specials off to set my DVR!!! THANKS!!

Great Update...again!!! You are on a roll!!

Even though I already knew the napkin man story... it STILL cracks me up! (and makes me cringe:eek:)

Very nice Illuminations shots too! You did good!:thumbsup2

TrenD was very cool. now that I redid my living room,I have a blank wall that the mickey ears/ice cream bars print would look great on:rolleyes1

Oh.... and the bus stops at Marketplace and PI were open when we were there 2 weeks ago. BUT we didn't stop on the West Side! So til you get there... both MP and WS will prob be open, and PI will prolly be closed:lmao:

Thanks for the programming times!! woohoo! Gonna go set the TiVo now!!

Paula

Absolutely loving your nighttime photos, but totally lusting after the "hand" light!! Very cool!

I'm starving for an Earl's right NOW!

First off thank you so much for the news of the Cosmo Slush being a permanent resident! I was truly hoping so! ::yes:: :yay:

I have eaten at T-Rex...gave it two tries and no thumbs up from me. It's a fun enough restaurant but I was really hard pressed to find anything I really liked on the menu. That given, I am not a huge Rainforest Cafe food fan either. Nachos and Iced T were good

I did A LOT of damage in TrenD. Such a fun store :rolleyes1

What an interesting conversation overheard at the Margarita Bar.

I watched the HGTV special and the History and TC I have DVRd. Didn't know about the Foodtv one though! Thanks!! :thumbsup2 I thought I heard somewhere that Samantha was doing a new holiday special....

Christine! I don't know where to begin! Three posts I had the pleasure of reading !!!! How much fun!!! loved it!!! Thanks for sharing!!!! Looks like that DHS evening topping off a fab pool day is really a day to put down in the DIS day hall of fame! Amazing fun! And I just love your meanderings around the WS How fun is that! Exactly how one should experience the F & W so I think your TR post is perfect for that! Some delicious food samplings! And your Margarita and DTD post, so much fun! NOT sure what to make of that "interesting" bar story, though!!!! You have a great photo journal of your trip even if you can't remember all the details with your note-taking skills!!!! ;)

AND THANKS for the tips on the Disney TV shows! I have to go scour for the times!!! YOU must be so excited that you are heading back to WDW in a week and a bit!!!!! :yay::yay: I can't wait to hear more about that, too!!!

YAY for THREE Christine posts!!!! :goodvibes

I was WAY BEHIND! But, I'm all caught up now - wonderful updates!!! :goodvibes

And now for my 3 million comments....

Loving all your DIS meets, and what a great balance with solo time. :thumbsup2

As the parade started (and the below is my one picture from this parade) a mom encouraged her two kids to squeeze in front of us. :headache:

That is a VERY cool pin!!

What a pain about the mother sending her kids to stand in front of you!!!!! Seriously, that kind of stuff drives me nuts. We always seem to encounter those families too, just completely rude. We staked out this spot, and these people squeeze in minutes before the parade/show thinking they can just go wherever. Erg! Sorry to had to deal with that too. :sad2:

I never get tired of exploring One Man’s Dream. I’m sad if it is really going away. Everytime I’m in there I find something new.

I had no idea they might be taking it out!!!!!!! I get so far behind on Disney news sometimes. Why would they take it out? What might replace it? Why, why, why?! It is SO COOL and an excellent place to educate children (and adults alike!) on the awesomeness of Walt Disney.

As soon as I heard that “duchess potatoes” was code for cheesy potatoes I was sold on this dish!! Cottage Pie - Ground Beef with Onions, Carrots, and Green Peas topped with Duchess Potatoes $18.99

DSC01528.jpg

Just typing that brings another story to mind. Something that would become a theme for the trip – shrieking children at the table. I’m not a mom. Maybe my tolerance is lower. But there was this kid a few tables over who would shriek at the very top of his lungs. And then he’d get a crayon or other treat and do it again. And the parents made no move whatsoever to take him out of the restaurant. Kids get upset and antsy. I get it. But when it becomes apparent that this isn’t a passing tantrum then I think the parents have to do something about it and not subject the other diners to it. Even our waiter rolled his eyes at them.

As I dodged puddles and squished my way up the walkway to the Beach Club lobby, standing there with baskets full of dry towels were the life guard staff.

What a very lovely meal at R&C, despite the rain! :goodvibes That Cottage Pie looks and sounds AMAZING. Yes, the R&C will be a must do on our trip next year, DH will flip over that with cheesy potatoes!

I am a Mom of a 2 year old and the shrieking kid thing does happen to us all; however, as you noted, there is a way to handle it and it is called discipline! It drives me NUTS that parents don't do anything about this! We always explain to Henry he cannot yell, scream, etc. in a restaurant (or at home for that matter!), and if he continues to do so, we remove him, he always calms down and realizes he was naughty, and we can come back and enjoy our meal-and so can those around us. Plus, we bring stuff to distract him. Toys, crackers, etc. Does wonders. He does shriek in excitement sometimes over dessert though! :rotfl: (but I do too ;))

Love that the life guard staff were there with towels! Very nice!!!

Speaking of Miss Jen, doesn’t she look cute at her birthday dinner?

DSC01560.jpg

Loved your review of CG! Joe and I are eating there later THIS MONTH (love saying that) for the first time. I'm going to try the sushi (drool), and I'm sure he'll get a flatbread. I haven't figured out what to choose as my main entree though. Was the goat cheese polenta very cheesy? I'm not a huge cheese fan - though, if I recall, goat cheese is pretty mild, right?

And yes, Jen, you look adorable at your birthday dinner! Love that necklace!

We interrupt this TR to bring you news of a December trip! Yep, I decided that I just cannot miss an opportunity to see Marty Sklar speak. And another TSM party doesn't hurt either. :rolleyes1

Yacht & Beach Club is booked (at least with the discount I booked under) so I'll be sticking with the Wilderness Lodge which should be nice and Christmasy. I've never stayed there and know nothing about it... HELP!!

What do I need to know? What shouldn't I miss? How do you feel about the restaurants there?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :yay: When I heard about all the plans for DAP I became very jealous that I wasn't going! We originally had our dates planned for then, but it just works better to go over New Years - and I am pretty darn excited about seeing those fireworks in person. :goodvibes Anyway, the WL. Love it, love it, love it!

What do you need to know? Hmmm...if you have a Courtyard View room you can request "Inner Courtyard" which means the back wall of the resort when looking at it from the pool-so you get a straight on view of the pool and the lake, its really pretty! You can see the Electrical Water Pageant from your room this way too. Speaking of which, the music is quite loud at the resort, so you can easily hear it in your room, or watch right on the beach.

The geyser goes off every hour, on the hour. It's pretty cool to see.

The boat to MK is a nice treat, and the bus to MK literally takes 5 minutes. So getting to the monorail resorts is very, very easy.

The food court, "Roaring Forks" is quite small. The selections are pretty limited. I believe there are some normal hot meals-like burgers and fries, nuggets, and then some sandwiches and salads-and that's it. Morning has the normal breakfast platters along with a "build your own yogurt or oatmeal." with fresh berries, granola and a few other things to choose from. For some reason, I found their oatmeal crazy, crazy good.

There is a little balcony that overlooks the pool/lake on like the 5th floor or something. It has a couple rocking chairs on it. It's pretty and very relaxing.

I hope that helps a bit!

I didn't quote them all, but LOVE your late night DHS pics! All the glowing neon and the quietness of the park I'm sure made it very magical and lovely! And what a great meal to share with friends, it sounds just like an awesome day!

DSC01685.jpg

This probably sems like a VERY boring update. No formal meals and just random wandering around WS. But, to be very honest, there is nowhere I’d rather be. So in a way, this was my version of celebrating today.

Not a boring update AT ALL! Beautiful WS pictures!

His buddy was relatively quiet and the couple seemed to neither encourage nor discourage him.

How in the world did that couple stay serious when talking with him about it?! :rotfl: I probably would have tried to be kind, just nod and smile and say "interesting..." but REALLY. Oh, hilarious!!

And what is with the defensive deal when trying to give someone a gift? Is that a man thing???? Weird.... but, I guess it shouldn't surprise me considering his new product idea! :lmao:

I headed home from Downtown Disney and wasn’t tired yet. And my “private” entrance makes dashing in for Illuminations too easy to resist!

Okay, I just LOVE this. You get back from DTD and just simply make a dip into Epcot. Seriously, dream, dream, dream, LOVE IT! And it really makes me want to stay at the BC even more so I can do the same. :goodvibes

I am so behind posting comments on the thread I am reading, I am so sorry! I really love your updates with all the pretty park pictures. It really feels like a small trip to WDW via yyour report. It is wonderful. I was thinking the other day how desperate I was for WDW pictures when I planned my first trip to WDW in 2004. I think I was looking at the resort picture gallery at allears.net nearly every other day... :lmao: And I had never even heard of food porn. I wonder how I could exist?? ;)

One emotion:

:cloud9: SIGH :cloud9:

C -

I just read your last two updates. I am impossibly behind, but I will have to agree with Katie here - SIGH! I love your late night dinner at HBD. What a great way to end the day. I would not have worried at all about those security guards. I would have continued to enjoy the moment, which you obviously did. What a fantastic meal and a fantastic night.

Then DTD - WOWSA - what a conversation!!!!!! Isn't it funny the things you hear when you are solo. It's stuff you could never focus on if you were with someone. I don't know how you didn't crack up and spew your margarita all over yourself. Sheesh! :confused3 I think my trips are just too short. I'm afraid to take time to shop!

Looking forward to more! :thumbsup2

I love you pictures of dusk and I enjoyed your shopping pics. I have not shopped there my last three trips. Why?

Thank goodness you had a margarita to help you while you were listening to the mad inventor!!! :lmao: I still can't get over that guy!

Twilight is my favorite time of the day as well, and twilight at Disney is just the best!!! :goodvibes

Great update, C! It definitely made me want to be shopping and watching Illuminations right now!
