Sorry if TMI but just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Novasure uterine ablation procedure. You can PM me if you don't care to share on the thread.

Thanks!

Yes. I had it done a couple of years ago. Best thing I ever did. I still have a period but it is so light, next to nothing, and only lasts a day or two. Previously I had out of control periods and was trapped in the house for two to three days a month because of heaviness. I was severely anemic to the point that I was going to have to start transfusions. Now, I am no longer anemic and my life is not dictated by my cycle.

I had an ablation in November. I think it was Novasure but not 100% sure. I didn't have any pain, just light cramping for a day or so afterward and I haven't had a period since.

I'm possibly having an ablation later this year. It depends on the results of my upcoming uterine biopsy. My first one came back pre cancerous so this next one will say yes or no for sure. Either way, I'll be interested to see what others say about the procedure.

Eta- what do you mean by a novasure ablation? Is that a certain technique?

Novasure is a type of ablation that uses a wire mesh to cauterize the inside of the uterus. There are different types of ablation - some use hot water, chemicals, laser, etc...

Honestly, if your biopsy came back pre-cancerous I wouldn't think ablation was an option. My doctor told me that if mine came back abnormal that it was not.

I would have a long talk with my doctor about having ablation with your health and possible cancer concerns versus having a true surgery. I just had this talk with my doctor yesterday and she told me that it's not even an option for me to have any form of ablation because of the irregularities going on.

OP you know I love you:flower3:

I had Ablation 3 years ago. BEST thing ever! As PP said, periods pretty much cease to exist, they are so light and maybe a day. A light liner is all that is needed. I was extremely unsure of the procedure at the time, but I am so glad I had it done! Had it done on a Thursday and was back to work Monday!

Good luck! *hugs*

I too am considering it. Waiting on biopsy results too. My big concern was birth control if anyone wants to discuss that…PMs welcome.

TINA!! Girl, I miss you. :) Shooting you a PM.

I have other health issues that complicate any procedure but this is one area I need to deal with to help with the other issues. Blah.

For those that have had the ablation done, was it painful during the procedure? Any adverse side effects or complications?

Ok, then mine was not a NovSure. I didn't have any wire mesh, mine was done with a laser.

As far as birth control, my husband had a vasectomy a year after our youngest was born.

I had no pain at all. There was the iv of course, that was the worst part. I had a little bit of nausea from the anesthesia. I had bleeding for a few days afterward, but that was typical post-op, i guess. I didn't have any pain, just light cramps that afternoon and part of the next day.

One of the best things I have done for myself. I had very bad, long, and frequent periods, and very low iron as a result.

My husband had a vasectomy five years ago so that's our birth control.

If you have an ablation the chances or you getting pregnant is very slim and if you do you will not be able to carry it to term. So, make sure you no longer want kids if you have it done.

I had an ablation almost 3 years ago and I am so glad I had it done. I was experiencing a period that would not stop no matter what the doctor tried. All tests came back negative, so this is what was recommended.

I had to sign papers before the ablation stating I would not try to conceive, even though I had a Tubal after DD due to complications during my 2 pregnancies. The risk of miscarriage is very high after the procedure. I don't remember much pain during or after, I had a nice little cocktail of pills to take beforehand at home and Toradol to take afterwards.

FALSE!! there is very little data regarding pregnancy after uterine ablation. You should still protect from pregnancy. I would encourage you to discuss this with your practitioner.

I had the Novasure procedure done in 2007...best thing I ever did! My periods stopped completely and I no longer have to put my life on hold for 2-3 days per month! I highly recommend it if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
