"Ladies and Gentlemen" becoming an outdated term?

If the business discriminates against people by not being inclusive, they can bring a suit against them. This is really about discrimination. And the business is trying to protect themselves.

So you think using the expression ladies and gentlemen is deserving of a discrimination lawsuit
Please tell me that I’m misunderstanding you here, you can’t really believe that right?

OK, fine. So on Monday, they identify as female, so they'd be in the group of "ladies". On Tuesday, they identify as male, so they'd be in the group of "gentlemen". BOTH groups are covered. How is that not inclusive?

Non-binary (adj.): not relating to, composed of, or involving just two things.

Some people will always have a hard time adapting to societal changes. Ask yourself if the change will adversely affect your life. If not, suck it up. Maybe, just maybe, YOU are the snowflake.

Personally I try to go with the flow and refrain from clutching my pearls.

Pretty much.

Folks are still fighting over bathrooms. This is going to be a rough patch with a lot of people getting wake up calls either by being terminated or sued. Or they can move to the more backward parts of the US that want bibles in public schools.

It definitely came up in my latest harassment training that I’m required to do every year.

I think it has been outdated for some time. Ladies and Gentlemen sounds "old timey" to me.

I hate "ma'am/miss" with a passion. "Sir" is used independent of age or marital status. Why do women have to be labeled as such? It is so condescending.

The English language really needs a gender neutral third-person singular pronoun. I know several people who prefer the pronoun "they", which is cool with me. However, after years of proper grammar being drilled into me, my brain kind of short circuits to use "they" in referring to a single person. But that's my issue to get over.

Why? It’s a simple one word answer. Yes.

Think of it this way..would your husband make a fuss if he was called ma’am at a restaurant? I’m guessing he would. So, why can’t someone else be called by their preferred pronouns? What harm does it actually do to you?
Because by insisting that people be referred to by something other than what they are is insisting that I toss all biology out the window.

My question is, why is it that if I disagree with a bunch of people making money for studying climate change, thus having a bias, I am a science denier, but people who throw biological science out the window are not science deniers?

Because gender and sex are not the same thing. It was decided, somewhere along the line, that being born biologically male came with specific character traits/social obligations/preferences and that being born biologically a woman came with specific character traits/social obligations/preferences. Now, when people challenge that view, they are denying science? No. Being biologically a male or a female does not mean that you identify that way.

Because gender is a societal construct, not bilogical.

This whole thing about preferred pronouns is a joke honestly.
It may be to you. It very much is not to others.
And if you are one of those who identify as one of those you are in a very very small minority so you suck it up.
That is changing in many ways whether you agree or not.
So when you are in a group of them and addressed as a group you ARE included regardless of your feelings.
Many people do not believe that.

Avoiding saying "ladies and gentlemen" came up in your latest harassment training?

And we're still waiting for your answer (multiple people have asked you) that you honestly believe a company employee saying "Ladies and gentlemen" qualifies as discrimination or harassment?

Gender discrimination came up. And it was expanded to include transgender people this year.

I’m not an attorney. However, I do have to handle harassment complaints. If the language is making someone feel uncomfortable, then it’s a legitimate complaint. It doesn’t matter what, I think. It matters what the person making the complaint thinks and feels. Then it’s up to the lawyers.
