Hello all,
Our family will be going on vacation within the next month and I was just now thinking about my father trying to find desserts (we are on the DP) at WDW that do not have ice cream/dairy in them.
He has tried the rice ice cream at WDW before and absolutely detested it. Is there any way we could get him an appetizer instead of a dessert at a few meals?
I am just trying to find some other options for him so he can enjoy the whole dining experience and knew you guys could help me out :)

Appreciate all responses and input! :worship:

If you are on the dining plan, there is no way you will be permitted to substitute an appetizer for a dessert at a table service restaurant, even due to a medical condition. You could request a substitute dessert, but you will not be able to swap the dessert for an appetizer.

Most restaurants will be able to provide fresh fruit, sorbet or something non-dairy. You should consider noting on all your reservations that you have a person who is lactose intolerant, or check the DISAbilities board for information on contacting Disney Special Diets.

Oh ::sigh:: I wish they could subsitute but I guess I understand-- policy is policy.

Thanks. I will take a look at the disabilities board too!

The rice ice cream is pretty...not tasty IMO haha. The tofutti ice cream is good, but some of the restaurants have sorbets!

Has he tried Lactaid tablets? My daughter is lactose intolerant and usually tries to avoid milk products, but when we go to places like Disney, she uses the Lactaid and it works pretty well for her.

He has and they work for very small amounts. But even a portion of a ice cream would be too much for those tables to counteract for him. :(
But thanks for the suggestion-- probably will still take some along!

I had to contact Special Diets for my son's shellfish allergy and they took great care of him. You could email them and ask them how to go about adding this on your ADRs. Email specialdiets@disneyworld.com

Most TS restaurants will provide fruit, or a sorbet which has no dairy in it. Are you dining at any buffets? Most of them have cookies on the dessert table, and although these most likely have some butter in them, would he maybe be able to tolerate those?

I'm lactose intolerant too, but not as bad as this sounds. I can eat some dairy, just not a straight glass of milk, and ice cream usually gets me but I deal with it. Every time I tried the Lactaid tablets, I got horrible stomach pain, don't know why. :confused3 But I just avoid using those tablets now.

What's a guy with LI to do? Dole Whip!!! Whip it good!! (I do double lactaids when I go if I'm gonna do dairy, but sometimes I still pay later. Especially younger cheeses, like blue.)

VIVA LA DOLE WHIP!
