Lactose free candy???

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm going to a reunion at the end of the month with some old neighbors of mine. I said I'd do a piniata for the kids. One is lactose intollerant, and can't eat chocolate. (Boy, do I feel sorry for him on Halloween ) I'm going to fill the piniata mostly with gadget toys, but thought I'd put some lactose free candy in it. I'm just not sure what to get. ...Thanks in advance.

I second the smarties, and regular sweet-tarts, too. Both come in small packages, and survive the fall from the piniata well. Lollipops probably depend on the brand, but last time DS got any of those, they all broke from hitting the ground.

As far as no lactose, most of the fruity candies are probably OK to have at the party. - My neighbor's DD is allergic to milk, and we check package labels for milk, lactose, whey, or casein.

Check for candy that doesn't have any milk. A lot of hard candies don't have milk. Tootsie Pops DO have milk, so none of those. But I think Dum Dums and Jolly Ranchers are safe.

Also, consider putting in some small toys, individual bags of cookies/crackers/fruit snacks/chips. Just check all labels.

Personally, my kids are lactose intolerant but have no issue at all with chocolate or milk in most products. Straight cow's milk kills their stomachs and they have to take lactose pills to eat ice cream, but that's as bad as it gets for them. However, I suppose that there are some people who have stronger reactions than others.

My milk allergic dd is a big fan of Starburst, Swedish Fish, Blow Pops, sour patch kids, twizzlers, skittles. You can get most of these in small snack size bags now too.

I don't think of chocolate as "candy." It's more like nectar of the Gods, medicine during a PMS depression, and my "go to" comfort food.

When I think of hard fruit candies, I think of them as cheap candies. Who would spend $10 on a bag of hard candies? But, Godiva chocolates are worth the price.
