Okay is there a magical holiday this week in the USA because there was reruns of everything!
No new Greys Anatomy, I didn't see a new Top Chef All Stars, no new Private Practice, no new Glee, no new Big Bang theory etc etc.

So is it just one of those unlucky tv weeks or does anyone have any insight?

I know there was the President's speech on Tuesday, and Grey's Anatomy was cancelled for some wedding planning show here (ABC Detroit)

Do sweeps start in Feb? or am I just imagining things? I know they are in May and maybe Nov. too?? Hopefully next week will be all new stuff- It seems like TV seasons are shorter and shorter - 20 or less episodes..?

What I don't get is that a new Private Practice was pre-empted two weeks ago for a re-airing of Off the Map, but they still choose to air re-runs the next two weeks

A new ep of GLEE is airing after the superbowl.

Yeah Grey's wasn't new:(
And I agree about the Private Practice thing... I seriously need to know what is going on with all the characters ahhh! lol

Yep. What is going on with all the repeats.
Two weeks there were many repeats too

Are the networks cutting back on number of new episodes now per season to save money?

LOL... I noticed that - DH is out of the country and we were thinking we would have a TON of shows to catch up on when he gets back.. the only thing new is Blue Bloods from Wednesday!

39 weeks from season-start to season-end
+ about 24 episodes per series per season
= about 15 weeks between December and April during which there will be reruns or pre-emptions. (And they can't do reruns or pre-emptions during the sweeps weeks: November, February and May, forcing most reruns and pre-emptions into December, January, March and April.)

This is as good a week as any, because one day has to be taken by the State of the Union.

The average number of new episodes per series per season hasn't changed significantly since the late 1970s.

I knew I looked this up once...

Let's take The Cosby Show for an example. In 1985, they showed episodes like this:
(late) September = 1
October = 5
November = 3 (one rerun/preemption in November)
December = 2 (two reruns/preemptions in December)
January = 4 (one rerun/preemption in January)
February = 4
March = 2 (two reruns/preemptions in March)
April = 2 (two rerun/preemptions in April)
May = 2 (one rerun/preemption early in May)

Again, nothing has really changed much in this regard.

My issue is primarily with Grey's Anatomy and Private practice its been re runs for 2 weeks (I think 3 for Private Practice) And coming off of christmas holidays that has no new episodes they're lacking thats all but bicker you make a valid point

Something happened with Private Practice. There was a new episode planned for January 13, but it was pulled. (I forget - was it for some special interview with the husband of Congresswoman Giffords?) So what you're seeing with Private Practice this past month is unusual.

new episodes should air in february. february is a sweeps month, as are may and november. i'm sick of reruns. the only things new this week have been "castle" (YAY!!!), "criminal minds", "blue bloods" and "bones". while i love all of these shows, i'd really like to see a new episode of "CSI: NY" and "the mentalist". wouldn't mind a new "CSI: Miami" either.

February ratings are February 3 to March 2, so the first runs should return next week.

Thanks for the February tips :)
$#(!~ my dad says was new this week it was pretty darn funny! But thats the only show i watch aside from reality tv that was new... its just a bummer when they all go out the same week;)
