the whole thing is so sad. She looks so happy in all the pictures. She is so young. How could a husband kill his own child for money? why not just leave her?

My very first thought when I heard the case was "the husband killed her." I really thought that they were going to find her body in the Berkley Marina last week when they found an unknown object that "could be a body" but it turned out to be an old anchor.

He's been having an affair, he took out a life insurance policy only weeks/months before - if this does lean toward being guilty then I am not sure what is.

If his "girlfriend" really thought he was divorced then I feel sorry for her too..... I would feel so horrible if I were her. If the guy wanted to be divorced why didn't he just leave her? Better that people just think you're a jerk than to be a murderer. Poor Laci- maybe she found out about the affair and took off to lick her wounds. I really don't believe that, if only it were true.

In another development Friday, San Luis Obispo detectives confirmed they are looking at Scott Peterson in connection with the disappearance of a college student there nearly seven years ago.

Peterson attended California Polytechnic State University at the same time as Kristin Smart, who disappeared on May 25, 1996.

"We are looking at his class schedules to determine if they crossed paths at all," San Luis Obispo County sheriff's Lt. Steve Bolts said Friday. "We have discussed the case with Modesto detectives as well. We both are familiar with each other's case."

Smart, from Stockton, was 19 when she was reported missing. Peterson was a 24-year-old student at Cal Poly at the time.

Laci Peterson met her future husband while both were students at the university.

Bolts said investigators contacted hundreds of people as they looked into Smart's disappearance. Peterson's name is in the case file as one of those hundreds, but Bolts said he could find no indication that Peterson was interviewed.

"Scott Peterson's name has not been directly related as a witness or a student who gave any positive response," meaning he did not return a letter sent to hundreds of students, asking them for information, Bolts said.

Bolts said Peterson did not show up on a list of people at whom investigators wanted to take a closer look.

apparently the cops have know he was having an affair
they only showed the photos to her parents because a tabloid had them and was going to print them this week
They all said Laci's father had confronted him weeks before this all happened about having an affair
