Labor Law Experts??

May I just add that before your friend makes too big of a stink over 1 measly hour they consider the atmosphere in the work place right now. With companies looking for any reason to cut back or having to cut back I wouldn't want to be known as the person who contacted the labor board over 1 hour.

I think its more the principle of it. Stand up for your rights. Get your coworkers to all fill em out too. Power to the people! Strength in numbers. If people were " stealing" an hour from their employer or trying to get paid for an extra hour you didnt work, you bet your bottom dollar the company would do something about it.

Doesn't help when the cutbacks start and you are on the list. Right now I wouldn't be rocking the boat for an hour no matter where I worked.

It is illegal to fire someone for filing a complaint with the Labor Board, and very easy to prove should one be retaliated against. Companies are very aware of this and the fines/lawsuits involved.

At my last company, very toxic environment, the "non boat rockers" are easier to let go first when cutbacks happen, they put up less of a fight and wont defend themselves/lawyer up. I come from a mean company that had this as their most basic policy. Get rid of the easy ones first. Management called them the "low hanging fruit" . It was hard for me to look the good people in the eye and tell them the BS reason the company made up in order to cut them. And of course guess who had to break the news to them? Carefully worded by the company of course. It is the reason I went back to school and changed careers, gotta be able to look yourself in the mirror at night.

BTW easiest ways to get rid of someone is attendance and tardiness. Easy to prove.
