Exactly how busy is it during Labor day? This probably the best time for my family to go but, I don't want to go if it crazy busy.

We arrived the Saturday before Labor Day last year and stayed for nine days. We did not go to a park on Saturday...that is our day of unpacking, going to Emeril's for dinner at City Walk and walking around Downtown Disney. We did go to the Magic Kingdom on Sunday and it was very busy...the busiest of all the days we were there. We were still able to do at least 1/2 if not more of the attractions (it was an extra magic evening). On Monday, Labor Day, we went for extra magic morning hours to Animal Kingdom and got a lot done (Expedition Everest three times, Kil. Safaris one time, Dinosaur three times, Primevil Whirl once and we walked through the Jungle as well and ate lunch at Flame Tree). We were back at our resort by 2:00 for a swim in the pool and rest and went to HS in the evening for dinner and rode a few attractions and went to Fantasmic. The rest of the week we waited a maximum of 10 minutes for most attractions (30 minutes for the mountains and 40 minutes for Soarin--although we also did fast passes for all of these too to be able to enjoy them more than once).

I absolutley have to go sometime during labor day because I don't want to pull the kids out of school too much. Do you think it would be better to go right before labor day say the Wednesday before OR start our trip on Saturday and end on Wednesday right after labor day.

We've gone every Labor Day since 2001 except one (had a grandchild due then). It's not crazy crowded but more than average crowded. Nothing like Memorial Day (which we also go) and nothing like Thanksgiving (which we also go for and worse than Memorial Day).

Most of the kids in the southeast have already been back in school for almost a month by that time.

To the OP, it won't matter which dates you choose, the crowds will be about the same. Pick the dates that have the cheapest airfare and free dining availabilty at your resort.

We went last year at that time and the cords are pretty minimal (by WDW standards that is!)

We went over Labor Day in 2006. Saturday and Sunday were moderately busy (I think we saw typical waits of 45-60 minutes at Space Mountain), but by Labor Day night the crowds were already better. Tuesday through the end of the week the parks were practically empty! It's a great time to go (if you don't mind the heat...it was very hot that week!)
