Lab results

How long does it take your doctor to get lab results? I went this morning at 7am, when do you think they'll have the results?

I've been sick for 2 weeks now and not sure how much longer I can wait but I don't want to be a pest.

Depends on the tests run but most labs are in by the next day. Some the same afternoon if you had your blood drawn at the lab or the drs office has an early enough pick up.

It all depends on the test and how backed up the lab is.

If the doctor put the order in STAT, the lab will process your labs sooner than all regular labs but after the STAT orders placed sooner than yours. In this case, they could well be finished by now.

Can you call his nurse and just ask when they expect to hear something?

I'd call and ask when they expect them so that you'll know if too much time goes by. It really depends on what type of test it is. Some are really fast, and others take a long time. I seem to recall when I had mono (which was about 15 years ago, so things might have changed) that it took about a week to get those results.

Thanks, I think I'll wait and call first thing tomorrow morning, that gives them 24 hrs.

Not to be gross but I've been on the toilet for 2 weeks now, I never would have let it go this long but I went away on vacation and am still SO sick I just want this to be over. I haven't had a good meal in 2 1/2 weeks...

stool and urine samples.
The last urine sample took them 2 weeks to get back to me with results, which found blood.

Uh, Kermit, the test for mono takes less than 30 minutes.
