LA Times Article of Future of DLR

to be honest, thats a really really weird place to build a park. but it seems that it will overlap the parking lot and strawberry field that Disney owns.

Now where would the people who park there park. :\ Now THAT is a interesting question.

It would be kind of nice to get a Disney Sea.

Epcot was our least favorite park in the United States and I don't want to see an Epcot light.

But after reading the article, I'm not so sure Disney wants a regular park at all. The land Disney owns over there doesn't seem to be large enough. Perhaps a niche park with DVC properties. For me that would be Meh, Yawwwn.

I do not have the numbers at hand, but I read that the space is comparable to DL and DCA. So no one seems to be concerned that there is not enough space for a third park.

What about just a Future World? I think DLR needs a Mission: Space and a Test Track! They already have Soarin and Innoventions. World Showcase is nice, but it wouldn't do well as a stand-alone park.

No one thought that the "parking lot" that they built DCA on was big enough for another theme park when it was built. I think there is plenty of "land" for them to build on. . .and they only need another "mickey and friends" structure to park all the additional guests. . .mmmm, sounds interesting. . .we shall see what happens. . .

yes, but the question is WHERE? the Simba Parking lot is planned to be built into cars Land. If you build another Mickey and Friends lot by Mickey and Friends lot, that would double the time to get from the lot to Disneyland.

i wonder i wonder. :\

This is all very interesting... :scratchin My husband and I were looking at sattelite photos of Disneyland to try and figure out where the hotel was that we stayed at 4 years ago and we saw a big open spot of land. So, we started specualting, and we're thinking it will be a big Disney water park. :fish:

Thanks Hydroguy for the link to the article. It was an interesting read. I'm curious (and anxious, and excited) to see how it all pans out.:thumbsup2

Sorry to those to whom I didn't respond in this thread in a timely manner. I had to unexpectedly go out of town for 4 days. So let me catch up a bit.

I do like the rides in future world. I certainly enjoyed Mission Space, Test Track, and Soarin. But Soarin is in CA. MS has had publicity problems. I think unfairly but my opinion doesn't matter for squat when 3 people read my posts vs the millions that watch the unfair headlines. Test Track for me was fun but it seemed the weakest of the super headliners at WDW to me.

But irrespective of that, I think I'd like to keep some uniqueness to WDW and DLR. If they were copies of each other, would there be any reason to go to the one not nearest you?

I certainly agree that World Showcase on its own is not capable of being a stand-alone park. I must confess to not being all that taken with it. I would like it better if every country had a movie and an attraction rather than nearly half of them having neither. I certainly wouldn't pay full admission to a park that consisted of only world showcase.

A water park would be cool too.

Here's Lutz's take on the issue.

Now whether or not that boutique park proposal wins out and gets the greenlight (sic) a few years from now is yet to be seen. There's still a possibility that a more traditional Disney park would be built on that land, although that would require the Mouse to buy out the surrounding apartments and strip malls in order to get a plot big enough to create a regular full size park on.

While not everyone likes water parks, some people LOVE them.

As long as they have enough rides to entertain all the people they let through the entrance, I love water parks. Typhoon Lagoon at WDW was awesome.

The only bad thing about water parks (to me) is there are no "people eaters", so the park always seems kinda crowded.
