We have booked to go on our next WDW hols for october 2004. we have stopped on site the last couple of times we have been but this time we are on a bit more of a budget so we have booked into the La Quinta Inn Lakeside. It looks ok in the brochure and it is a Vigin flagship hotel. We wondered if anybody had any views on this hotel. THANKS.:wave2:

DaveyO,

The La Quinta Inn Lakeside used to be a Sheraton Fourpoints property until sometime earleir this year. I haven't stayed at the hotel since it changed hands, but did so on many occasions prior - at least 10 or so - and I always had a terrific stay. I cannnot of course vouch for the service now, but for location, layout and convenience, it would still be a hard act to follow in my opinion.

The following is a review I gave of the hotel to another poster last year - it includes some local info as well, as the poster was a first timer as I recall:

"The Sheraton Fourpoints Lakeside Inn is a terrific hotel in my opinion. I've stayed there maybe 10 times now and always really enjoyed it. I'm going back in October too.

The rooms are decent sized, and are always well kept, clean and tidy. They are renovated on a regular basis and so fittings and equipment are always in good condition - I've only ever had to report a stuck bathroom door on one occasion. Most have 2 double beds, the usual things such as TV, phone, hair dryer, ironing board & iron, etc, and have a few nice little extras such as a coffee/tea maker and particularly useful, a fridge. They have a small vanity area separate from the bathroom, and clean bedding/towels are provided daily if so required.

The usual amenities are available on all blocks, such as laundry rooms, ice and vending machines, and there are a couple of shops in the main reception block, a small gift/clothes store and a small but useful grocery store for everyday requirements.

There are 2 full restaurants, one a buffet style, The Greenhouse, which had a good if none too original selection of foods and meals available for breakfast and lunch. The full service restaurant, Hurricane Sams Bar and Grill, had some very nice dishes and is a good option for those nights when you don’t want to go out to eat. They also do a nice selection of snacks in the bar area, and a nice selection of long cool cocktails - I recommend the Fuzzy Navel !

As usual the price of the restaurants tends to be a little higher in the hotel restaurants than in similar places off property.

And for those post-park days when its just too much effort to leave your room, there is a Pizza Hut on property which delivers to rooms.

The 3 pool areas are all well maintained, clean and have plenty of beds and seating. Towels are provided. The pools are always clean, and the water checked regularly. At least two of the pools have Gazebo's where drinks can be purchased and food ordered from the Pizza Hut and delivered to poolside.

The staff are always courteous and helpful, even on one occasion offering to do shopping or to provide some food for me when I was ill and stuck in my room for a few days on one visit !

The hotel's location is very good for Disney in particular, being in the Maingate area, and about 2 miles from the junction of US 192 and World Centre Drive, but is far enough away that you get a nice relaxed atmosphere for those non-park days when you just want to chill by the pool.

It is also very well positioned for restaurants and shopping. Almost opposite is a shopping centre with a large Goodings store and various other smaller convenience stores including an Eckerd pharmacy. There is also a Subway, Dairy Queen and Giordano's Italian restaurant which does excellent pizza. Better still are Carrabba's, an Italian themed restaurant with excellent food, and TGI Fridays, where I always enjoy eating.

However, you needn't worry about finding places to eat close by, as there are any number of perfectly good restaurants within a few minutes walk or drive from the hotel, from the big burger chains and buffet establishments, such as Ponderosa, Sizzler and Shoney’s - all good options - to rather higher quality places. I particularly recommend Key W Kool's, an open pit grill steakhouse about a quarter mile from the hotel going East on US 192, where I've always had great meals, and Charley's Steakhouse, which is also East on US192, about 2 miles away in a shopping plaza directly opposite the right turn to Celebration. Best steaks in town in my opinion, and I'm not s big steak eater.

And there are numerous shops and malls all within easy driving distance along US 192, so your retail therapy needs are catered for very nicely too !

The only small strike against the hotel is that you are a little farther away from a few attractions, such as Universal, Sea World and I-Drive, than some people might want to be, some 25 - 30 minutes drive from Universal for example. Personally I see that as an advantage as I like to be away from the hub-bub of the parks and tourist attractions when I'm chilling, those with kids might not...

So you can see, I kind of like the place, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality, cheap (rooms from as little as $49 a night), comfortable and safe hotel as a base for enjoying the Magic !

Now, have I forgotten anything... ;) "

I hope this helps !

We are staying in the La Quinta for our first time in 2 weeks today, as you say it's a virgin flagship hotel! so we will let you know in a month or so. I emailed La Quinta with a room request and they replied straight away confirming the room I requested, I'm sure this is a sign of how good it will be.
We always stay on the west 192/27 and so have driven past this hotel at least twice a day, mostly as the Sheraton lakeside though, and for location it would be hard to beat, it's also at the junction for splendid china so is controled by traffic lights so giving you a chance to get out into the disney traffic!! One last thing the brochure states that the rooms have fridges that's gotta be a good thing in Orlando, my last hotel wanted $15 per day for a fridge, would have been cheaper buying one from wal mart, each visit ($65)

We stayed here in January, shortly after it became La Quinta. The room met all our requirements and in many ways was not that much different to a value disney resort except there is no theming. At the time they were refurbishing many of the rooms, so they are probably better now. DD loved the pool which was well heated (almost bath like). TGI (no, not the cross roads one) is walkable if you can Linford Christie across the 192. Don't forget to use the "short cut" into Disney (Sherbrooke road, just by McDonalds) which brings you out between AKL & AK itself, so journey time to there is about 10mins. We did not use the complimentary bus service, but another family did & found it restricted their day as it was not as frequent as the ones run by the DD hotels. As the room had a fridge, we did not really eat there much, but did have Pizza Hut which was OK. The deli did have nice croissants etc., but they a re a little pricey, especially as Walgreens is situated right next door & open 24/7. Have a great time!

We stayed at la quinta Inn feb 2003. It was my first visit to the usa. It was brill, rooms very clean. Pool nice and warm.

Thanks guys for the great reviews looks like we have made a good choice. We will be using the courtesy buses as we wont drive when we go to WDW which does restrict you but we seem to have managed before.

Hope you have a great time CALVIN (as i'm sure you will) look forward to your review when you get back.:wave2:

You say about using the complimentary bus service, from what I can gather they run to WDW, Seaworld, Universal and some of the malls.

You can also get the free shuttle bus to Busch Gardens as it actually picks up at the La Quinta, we used the service in
April this year and saved money as we normally stop in Tampa for a couple of days it's also the last pickup point and the first drop off point so your'e not on the bus any longer than necessary.

This trip's now going to be our honeymoon! just decided to get married day before we go.

We stayed here two weeks ago.

The hotel is in a good position, and the rooms are large, clean and comfortable.

HOWEVER, be careful about which room you are given. We were first given a room which had a connecting door with the room next door (as I think 90% of the rooms her do). I am not joking when I say you could hear a carrier bag rustling in the room next door!! and we had very very very loud neighbours who couldn't talk in less than a shout, and had the tv on full blast every night (they never seemed to ever be out LOL) and stayed up really late so needless to say we didn't get a lot of sleep

We knew the room next to ours, at the end of the block, didn't have connecting doors so as soon as the people moved out of here we asked to be moved and the room was much better.

I would say that at least 50% of the hotel was empty so it shouldn't be a problem if you do need to move rooms.

The hotel isn't plush, and did look a bit run down in places but as has already been said the fridge in the room is a definite plus - it's a ful size fridge too, not a compact one.

Hope that helps.

Hi Silver

Does the hotel do the shuttles to all Parks and have hairdryers and irons in the rooms as stated in the brochure????
I have contacted the hotel direct and asked for a pool side room, do you know what they are like

thanks for the info

Calvin & Anne

All the rooms are in 2 storey blocks and it is only the rooms at the end of the blocks that don't have connecting doors so try to get one of those if you can.

The rooms have ironing board, iron, full size fridge, very large safe, hairdryer, coffee maker.

Sorry, we had a car so can't help with the shuttle buses. I know they did do them but not sure which parks they went to or how frequently the ran.

You have a great choice of restaurants across the road from the La Quinta (within walking distance), and a 24hr Walgreens shop right next to the hotel. Can particularly recommend the Golden Corrall for breakfast - we tried Ponderosa, Sizzler and GC and this was definitely the best of the three. Hotel breakfast was OK but not as much choice as the other restaurants.

If you need any more info just shout.

Our room was not at the end, but did not have a connecting door, so maybe it just depends on what block you are in. We faced away from the pool and were on the first floor

We stayed there last November (then Sheraton not La Quinta).

There were 6 of us (3 adults, 3 children) staying in 2 rooms so the connecting door was perfect for us - couldn't have managed without it. Rooms were comfortable and clean but obviously not new.

We had ground floor rooms facing the (very warm) pool. Kids loved it. There was a kids club - free with Virgin - which ran 2/3 times a week that our 2 eldest went to. There was drawing to do, games to play, telly to watch etc. and included a meal. We had most of our breakfasts at the hotel as the kids ate free.

We had a car so didn't use the bus. I did overhear a conversation a man was having with reception that he wanted to stay at Magic Kingdom to see the fireworks (7 pm) but the bus came back at 6.30 pm so there may not be much flexibility in times/no. of buses etc.

I would certainly recommend the hotel, we would stay there again.
