Hi Southern California experts!!
We are planning a trip to CA in August.:yay: I am planning on spending 3 days in La Jolla and 5 days in DL/Hollywood.
I have looked into hotels in La Jolla and they are$$$$$$$$. Does anyone know anything about the Best Western Inn By the Sea. They seem to be the most reasonable in the area. It gets ok ratings on Tripadvisor.
Also, we are interested in taking a snorkling/kayaking trip- any one you guys would recommend?
In addition, where is the best place to watch the sunset? I heard it is magnificent!!!
Any suggestions you could give me for the area, I would greatly appreciate!
Thanks so much for all your help:flower3:

I have not stayed at the Best Western Inn By the Sea, but I have passed it many times and it has a great location. If you stayed there, you would have easy access to the Village and the Cove.

I have stayed at the Empress Hotel and it was fine and less expensive than many other La Jolla Hotels. My hotel of choice in La Jolla is the Grande Colonial, but it can be expensive.

Best place to watch the sunset is from La Jolla Cove. You could also have drinks on the terrace of La Valencia and watch the sunset from there.

La Jolla is gorgeous! My dad grew up in La Jolla and I spent several summers there as a young adult. My most recent visit was in January. La Jolla is at the top of my list as a retirement destination.

Thank you both so much for your responses! We are soooooo excited about our trip. As I am really looking forward to DLR, I am also excited about our time in La Jolla!
Any restaurant recommendations?

Thanks again for all your help:worship::worship:

Nine-Ten, the restaurant at the Grande Colonial on Prospect Street, is one of the best hotel restaurants in the state and has the awards to prove it. Any meal there is good, but I especially like breakfast.

A half-mile outside of the Village on La Jolla Blvd. is a good Mexican restaurant called Su Casa. I like their guacamole made tableside and their carnitas.

Harry's Coffee Shop on Girard is a La Jolla institution and it serves breakfast and lunch. The food is nothing special, but it's an OK place for an inexpensive meal.
