So i heard some great things when they first opened and of course some not so great things....has anyone been there lately? i'd love to hear the good and the bad...thinking of trying it since we are running out of new places to try. TIA!

We were there in June and we enjoyed it! My family has some food snobs in it and they really liked it.

The chips and salsa they put on the table for you are good and not too spicy.

I had the shrimp tacos, delicious!! I will say if people are looking for regular taco/burritos, this not the place for it. But everything is soooo good.

Um, margeritas.........amazing!:rotfl:

The only slight drawback was our waiter took a loooooong time to figure out our bill with the dining plan, but there was a lot of us with our own room keys, so it takes time.

But the plus side of that was we were able to stay and watch Illuminations! We had a window view, but they did encourage the children to walk to some of the windows for a better view. (not in the way of other patrons) Lights were dimmed, music played, pretty awesome!

We were there three weeks ago and had a delicious meal. I loved the steak and my daughter thought her chicken was very good. The shrimp tacos looked tiny to two of the people who ordered them but they ended up being full by the end.

My DS was upset as the only kids choices were beef tacos, chicken tacos, chicken nuggets or nachos. He wanted real Mexican food. :) The waitress who brought our food was wonderful though in assuring him that Mexicans eat tacos everyday so it was real Mexican food.

Illuminations seating is hit or miss. If this is the main reason anyone wants to go is to see Illuminations from inside I would say skip it because you may not be able to get a full view. When we spoke to the manager during our meal we were talking about how we loved the restaurant and that it was very nice they piped in the music and lowered the lights. We were in the first room as you enter (not a view of Illuminations). He told us just about everyone asks for an Illuminations view for reservations after 7:00 pm ADRs. He told us there were only so many seats and some people get very upset about it.

Hope this helps. :)

I don't have an opinion yet of La Hacienda, we will be trying it in October (we'll probably split one of the entrees for 2, but that could always change).

However, if you are looking to try new places, your far better off trying a restaurant on your own without letting positive or negative reviews sway you one way or another. The only opinion that matters is yours and the only way to form an opinion is to try it yourself. :thumbsup2

Does anyone have updated pics of this restaurant? We were last the World in 2009 and I surely do not remember any windows at the Mexico Pavilion restaurant. The restaurant sat alongside the river cruise "ride" and it felt like you were eating outside at night.

Has this been renovated?

La Hacienda is a totally seperate restaurant from SAI. La Hacienda is across from the Mexico structure and sits right on the water. :thumbsup2

As PP said it is a new building on the lake side.

These photo were taken from the lake side so you can see the windows. As you can see from the pictures there is a very limited viewing area.

We just ate there last week. It was great. I had chicken mole, husband had shrimp tacos, son had fish, daughter had kids tacos. All were great. Margaritas are great but very strong. You can't do two. Chips and salsa are very good as well. We had great service. I don't think it would be a good place to view Illuminations as your view would be blocked by pillars etc. The QS outside has better views for Illuminations. We ate a La Hacienda and then just went outside between Mexico and Norway and watched Illuminations. It was great.

We also ate there a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I had the shrimp tacos and they were delicious, and the apple turnover for dessert was really, really good. I can't remember what dh had but whatever it was, he liked it a lot. The servers were super nice and the atmosphere was lovely.

We ate there in September 2010 and about 4 weeks ago (May 31st). While I gave it 10/10 the first time, the most recent time was 9/10 but it was still great and I would go back again! The shrimp tacos are yummy! And the margaritas are FABULOUS! Just ask for a margarita flight (it's not on the menu) if you want to try 5 margaritas. But my favorite is the Rose margarita. Yum! The restaurant is large and roomy feeling and very light with all the windows. The service is great too. Definitely try it out!

I've been there twice. Food was good both times. Service, not so much. First time neglectful, second time even more so.

We ate there a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

I got the Puerco en Salsa de Mole Negro - Roasted pork tender loin with mole negro sauce, served with esquites (roasted corn), sweet potato mash, beans and vegetables It didn't look like much when I got it, it was just four pieces of pork but it was very filling. The only thing I didn't like was the sweet potato mash. It was more like a sweet potato puree, kind of like baby food with a watered down flavor. I had never had mole sauce but had always wanted to try it because I watch too many cooking shows. I liked it, it was kind of sweet but had a kick to it.

DH and DS got the La Hacienda - Mixed grill offering flank steak, chicken al pastor, chorizo and vegetables, served with beans and fresh salsas They both liked it, the steak and chicken was good. The chicken was very most. The chorizo is like a sausage, they liked it but I thought it was too dense. It was more like a summer sausage. They got a sampleing of all the veggies with their meal. They would get it again.

I thought the chips and salsa were just OK. The chips were a little thicker and crunchier than what I'm used to. I also tried the margarita flight. I didn't like it was much as I thought I would. They were served room temperature which was a bit of a put off to me. They were OK but not worth $20 IMHO.

This was the meal I was most concerned about. I was afraid that no one would care for it but it turned out to be our favorite meal of the trip.

My dad and I ate there last December, and it was my favorite meal that trip. I have to agree, the drinks are very strong. Espcially when you have been traveling all day and not had much to eat.:rolleyes1 And the food was excellent, but a bit more spicey than I am used to. We had the taco trio appetizer, and shared the seafood platter. The scallops were sooo good!

We also had a great view of Illuminations, though I didn't realize how lucky we were to have it. And we also had no problems with our service. I wouldn't hestitate to go back.

I also have pictures of most entrees and 3 of the desserts from out visit at the beginning of June here.

Hope this helps some. :)
