We're just back from DL and we took one day off to go to the American Girl store.
I highly recommend this to anyone who loves dolls. My dd is 14 and she still loved it. I bought the package entitled A Day at American Girl Place, it came with spending money, included dinner and entrance into the theatre where they have a live show plus a photo.
The store is beautiful with displays of the dolls dressed up in all the different lands/characters. The cafe was really fancy, all done up in black, white and pink (even giant pink chandeliers) they provide little seats that attach to the table where the dolls can sit. It looked like every little girl had her doll with her. My dd has dolls but she really only displays them in a doll case at home, she is 14 and does not play with them anymore, so of course she didn't have one with her at the table but they asked her if she wanted to borrow a doll for the day which was sweet of them (she declined LOL).
There were several meals to chose from and they were all tasty and beautifully presented. All included warm cinnamon buns to start then a plate of dips (hot artichoke and ranch) plus vegetables and crusty bread to dip and grapes, cheeses and crackers, then your choice of entre's which were huge and then it included 3 desserts, each person got a fancy decorated cake, a buttery sugar cookie with pink sprinkles and a flower pot filled with chocolate mousse that had a little daisy planted in the mousse.
The theatre show was wonderful. The little girls who performed were approx between the ages of 8 - 14 yrs. and were unbelievably talented singers and dancers. I don't know how they were able to memorize the huge amount of dialogue. I looked around the audience and all the little girls and their parents seemed to be enthralled plus the story's were all about american history.
The photo was where they take your kids picture posed with an american girl doll (yours or a loner) and then when you pick it up your kids face is on the cover of their magazine. My daughert was thrilled with this and it will look great in our DL vacation scrapbook.
The AG Place and the Farmers Market are all beside each other so that you can easily spend the day browsing through the food market where they have loads of lunch counters and spices, fresh produce etc, then there is the promenade with all the fancy shopping and dancing fountains.
It took us 45 minutes driving time from DL both going and coming back at the end of the day. It was a reasonable drive and an easy location to find. Parking if validated at American girl should have been 14.00 but the cashier asked for 19.99. I didn't realize I had to validate but when we mentioned that, the cashier just waved us on and didn't charge us anything. Parking is less than 4 minutes walk from the stores.
This was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it for any of the little princess's out there. We dragged dad along and he enjoyed the cafe and the theatre show but he sat on one of the upholstered benches and read his book while we shopped for dolls LOL
