A number of years ago we tried to buy US Summer Olympic tickets in some lottery, can't remember which year that was. Eventually our names were chosen and the only available tickets were for obscure events which apparently few attend or the pricing was exorbitant. We were offered 'obstructed view' seats for the opening ceremonies. Apparently once they finalize where all of the camera platforms would be in the stands, a few extra seats become available, but the views aren't very good. We had no interest in spending hundreds/thousands on seats with no guarantee you could even see the event, so we said no thanks. If the events aren't local to where you live, also expect sky-high prices for hotels or have to drive a LONG way with lots of traffic to get to any venues. Heard from others who have gone that transportation to the various venues can also be a challenge. Good to consider all of that since the ticket prices are just the first of many hurdles.
Someone I used to work with attended as wherever her husband worked had access to a few VIP tickets. That seems like the best way to go as it included tickets to popular events, hotel accommodations and special transportation to/from the events. While likely the best way to enjoy the Olympics, clearly not something everyone has available to them. We never tried to buy Olympic tickets after that and enjoy watching for free at home on TV...................LOL.
