:D Hi Everybody!
I'm new on the boards although I've been reading them for a month or two. So much valuable info - you guys are amazing!
I was wondering if any of you have used L&M Car rental and what you thought of them. I found a rate of 187.49 including all taxes and surcharges for a minivan the week of 12/15-12/21. Is this a reputable company?

ah what a story...If you go back a couple of pages you'll find and L&M thread. I've used them a few times without incident, however, many others have reported grief...

Your rate sound the same as mine. Paid $150 plus taxes for a week in October for a mini van. Did not have any trouble whatsoever and would cetainly rent from them again. Say no to Alamo, Orlando, the worst car rental place on earth.

Thank you Pluto4President! I checked out that thread and think I just might give them a try. I guess you can have a good or bad experience with just about anything. I'll hope for the best!:D

I used them last April and they were fine. You go downstairs to the rental counter. I was second in line. It took 5 minutes to get paperwork taken care of. We went to the underground walkway to the rental garage and gave the slip to the attendant and off we went. I just booked them for this April for 8 days SUV $250 with all taxes. I had a full size at EA for $220 so I will dump that.

Would anyone happen to know if when you book through L & M online do they take your credit card # and then process your bill right away? I know that when we went through National in Dec 2001 I was able to cancel and redo cheaper rates through their site with no credit card #. Thanks for any help you can give me.:D

Sammi,
They did take my credit card # when I reserved on the web but I don't think they charge it right then. If you go to their web page and click on "About Us" they list all the info you need (including a number to call with questions). It mentioned something about cancelling within 24 hours of your pickup date - with no penalty. That way you can still shop for the best price I imagine...

Thanks so much for your help hulagirl!:) I'll check on it for sure.:)

A couple of months or so ago, L&M's website wasn't yet secure. However, I was on their site today, and it appears that it's secure now, as the notice isn't there anymore(of the site not being secure), and the padlock symbol was on the screen.

If we decide to fly, and Dollar's rates remain ridiculously high, I think we'll give L&M a try.

I've just been on the L & M website..... their security is only 56 bit and I would hesitate to book anything until it's 128 bit.:(

Has anyone else noticed this? I also wonder if we could still get these same low rates if we phoned them instead of booking via the internet?

I just uded L&M for a 4 day rental last week. My economy car was a Daewoo Lanos 4 door with only 5,000 miles on it- very clean, basic car. I booked it for $16.99/day + charges online. My only complaint is that when I returned it, they billed it through at $17.99/day. I was cutting it close for my flight and didn't didn't check my paperwork closely. If I had more time, I probably would have gone back for the $5+ difference, but didn't bother. I've rented from them several times and haven't had any problems- counter help is sometimes not very friendly, but the cars have been fine at a reasonable price.
